PLEA TO TV FOR 19/02/11

Dear Broadcast Teams
I know Sky and Premier are in competition Saturday night, but I'd like to make a request to both sides: Please, DO NOT make references to the other channel's show and particularly DO NOT GIVE RESULTS. Most of us will be watching one and recording the other, as you know, so don't spoil it for us in an attempt to score pissy little points over each other that will mean nothing at the end of the day but which will ruin our evenings. Remember, it's about the fans, it's not about you. You are subscription networks and we are the paying subscribers. Without us there's no you.
Thank you.
(Now if either side does it they'll look like right wankers

)

Which would make it ever worse if they did it this time

I simply don't think Sky will mention it at all. Premier would be wise not to as that will p*ss a lot of people off.
Sky used to be absolute sods for throwing up football spoilers.

I remember when the BBC and Sky were showing bills on the same night (obv a while ago), the Sky team seemed to take pleasure in announcing the result of the BBC show at the end of their show

Can't remember that - makes Glyn's post very relevant indeed then. It wouldn't stop me watching the BBC show...I would just have an absolutely intense hatred for whoever had spilled the beans.

It's just negative and self-centred, no regard for the audience. They dress it up as 'keeping the viewers informed', but that always sounded so hollow coming from Sky, where as Ian points out Sky Sports News means news of sports on Sky.

Hi Glyn. The trouble is, mate, they can, if they so choose, dress up a spoiler in a legitimate way. The Premier Sports crew could say something like: "A good match for Fury now could be a third fight with John McDermott, who is right back in the picture after knocking out Larry Olubamiwo in five rounds in London this evening." Or the Sky team could say: "Frankie Gavin does it again and now he might want to go for the British title, which John O'Donnell retained with a convincing points win over Craig Watson earlier this evening." But I think the two teams will play the game with the fans. Maybe they could say something like: "We have some news just in from another boxing show in London this evening, and if you do not wish to know any results we suggest you cover your ears now." After all, mate, they wouldn't want you wheeling out the big guns for your next editorial, would they?

Just get ready to stick your fingers in your ears. Any sentence that's starts off "We're hearing that..." or "Elsewhere tonight.." could be ominous.

Maybe watch it with the sound off? I do this whenever I am scoring a bout so I am not influenced by biased commentary. It doesn't really affect the action in a negative way.

You don't you need to worry, Glyn, because as much as Sky Sports are utter ***** they will not give another fighter on another channel the time of day. Perhaps the other channel could spoil it, but then I'd watch the other bill first, then the Sky one second. You'll be sound like that. I'd bet my cock on it.

Sky are a pain for showing highlights of fights that happened on the undercard when cutting to the adverts.

As for spoilers. Some silly buggers just can't help themselves. Remember ITV's ill-fated Premiership show? Remember United's 3-5 win over Spurs. I do. I remember it well because they cut to an ad before the game and gave us a taster of a game, a United player scoring what was surely a winning goal (I know these things).
Remember United versus Valencia away (not the Prem but I'm on a roll and I fooking hate ITV). Scoreline was 2-1, two last ditch goals. Bob Wilson kicked off the night by smugly telling us to "Look out for late drama." Scholes puts United 0-1 and then bugger all else happens. Cut to break, come back for the last ten minutes and guess what, we have the "drama" of two late goals. Only it ain't dramatic, is it, because Bob gave the game away and did so every fooking time he hosted the show.
Sorry to vent.
I wasn't in the UK at the time but didn't a female presenter (sorry to appear sexist to any PC persons out there) give away the result when the BBC (I think it was the Beeb, probably BBC1) showed the Witherspoon-Bruno fight on a next-day recording? I know that many fans went to great lengths to avoid the result so they could watch the fight "as live" and they were absolutely furious.

Sky used to when there was boxing on ITV - remember they gave away the Clev vs McIntosh result.

Yeah, ITV once spoiled it for me too. I think it was when Fury was being interviewed and it was the night Audley Harrison won Prizefighter. I was gutted.

The biggest time SKY revealed a spolier is when they revealed that Carl Thompson had stopped David Haye (due to be broadcast on the Beeb on the same night) on the same night when Wayne Alexander sparked Takaloo (live on SKY)
