This would be a hell of a fight and stylistically they're very similar!Im not sure if Murray would be strong and hard hitting enough in the end though. What do you chaps think?

I don't think Murray stands a chance. His defense is terrible at top level, he is not fast and is not a big hitter. So far he has outworked and outlasted oppononents he was favoured to beat, none of whom have been above Euro level. Rios by 9th round KO.

I do like John Murray and hope that he raises his game to make it all the way though in fights where he should (IMO) have been practising moves and defense he has instead went into the trenches and taken lots of punishment that a world class boxer would avoid.

I tend to agree,i think rios is almost like a bigger stronger version of murray. The problem is that I dont see murray beating the other light weight champs in JMM and soto and even the mexican fella vasquez!

Rios does look a handfull and in the picture in Boxing News this week he's got forearms like a butcher. Though I can imagine he has it far tougher in sparring and competition I'd not write Murray off. He's well beat just about everyone he's got in front of him and doesn't seem the sort to fall to pieces through nerves. Rios wouldn't intimidate him one bit and Murray may outdo him inside; like Hatton used to do.

Well thats the thing though simon, rios is an inside fighter himself. His style is very similar to murrays but he seems to hit harder and block shots better with his gloves than john does!It would be a war though!

I agree that it'd be great match up lefty; the thing is; just because a boxer is British doesn't mean he can't out Mexican the Mexicans. I've not seen the Rios bout from last night but I'd put a fiver or a tenner on John if it came off. (Last of the big spenders eh?)

I've seen the Rios from last night, and you'd have to make him a heavy favourite. He's just a better version of Murray.

Rios is quality but has he fought his clone and can he deal with it, j murray is a big hiting boxer and a don't think Rios likes this style. I think Mr Murray can pull this out of his hat imo :geek2:

Murray would be a live underdog in this fight but would be very foolish to try and beat Rios from the inside for 12 rounds. Can't see Warren going anywhere near the fight to be honest though, will probably aim for Vasquez Jr.

Rios would beat Murray by late stoppage imo. As some have mentiond, he is like a better version of Murray.

John Murray would get stopped similar to Katsidis/Mitchell imo. When he fights a top fighter not 5 years removed from their prime and handles them comfortably I might think differently

If John can take a sparring war with Ricky, I think he could do the same with Rios.

this is the opponent that murray should gun for. an exciting rookie champ who likes to trade. massive credit to rios for overcoming what he did, and stopping one of the most difficult title holders out there. let's not forget rios showed lots of vulnerabilities (a body puncher who hates it to the body, for instance).

this is a guy that john murray can show his considerable offensive skills against. should be one hell of a fight. who's to say murray can't step up, put on a show and - maybe - win a hugely exciting fight?

this is a better fight than katsidis, because it's been proven beyond doubt that katsidis isn't quite good enough to win a title, whereas rios is. there's more to gain vs rios and i hope with his new promoter, murray can land a fight like this. i wouldn't write him off. it's a daunting fight but better than gunning for the very awkward & ugly IBF champ.

also how about murray v antonio demarco?

demarco won WBC elim v reyes sanchez last weekend. soto won't defend vs demarco as they're cousins. soto expected to vacate. murray rated highly in the WBC...

demarco previously got spanked in a WBC 135-pound title bid, by edwin valero, in valero's last fight.

Yeah that could be a good move, not sure how murray would do with the southpaw stance though.
