Just watched the fighter at the pictures last night.
surely they have to make a sequel???
how the hell can you make a film about a fighter who starred in 3 "ring magazine fights of the year" and was involved in one of the most thrilling trilogies in history against arturo gatti and not bother including them in the film.
I get that the film is about the relationship between him and his brother and his comeback from early career setbacks.
but seriously? no mention of gatti.
i've haven't been so angry since I watched "the damned united" and realised they had made a film about brian clough and carelessly neglected to involve nottingham forrest!

Haven't watched this one, but my mate sent me a link about Wahlberg discussing 'The Fighter 2'.

I'm a script writer and I don't think a sequel is a possibility.
The three Gatti fights are fantastic fights, but them and the rest of Mickey's career wouldn't have the necessary elements to make a good script.
As a boxing fan, I'd rather watch the fights on DVD.

I thought they couldn't because Gattis estate have signed exclusivity with a rival studio.

The Fighter is a great movie on its own! It doesn't need to turn into a modern day Rocky. Its as much a story about Family as it is about fighting.

That's what I heard as well, the studio would have needed permission and probably have to pay to portray Gatti in the film or something like that.

I didn't think the boxing was important in the film. If anything the worst parts for me were the actual fight scenes!

Just watched this tonight, I thought it was a 6 or 7 out of 10. Good in parts but never truly gripping and I never felt wholly bonded with any of the characters, didn't have the emotional impact of a film like 'The Wrestler' which I really found to be a great film.
