Sorry to write another topic on the fight people but i think the other thread had a sort of two way thing going on at the same time! I thought Reid won the fight by 2 or 3 points in an ideal world but this is Germany and the way Reid faded hardly made it suprising. I thought Reid lost the fight as much as Ottke won it, time and time again i watch Ottke and i think to myself How on earth can this guy be a 20 defense world champ? He's awful. The constant phrase "He's good at what he does" is true but desperately annoying. What does he do exactly?! So he came on strongish in the later part of the fight, he still merely landed pitter patter jabs and immediately ran in an held. I cannot believe i heard Reid was down by 3 coming into the 5th, that is disgraceful!!

The ref was the worst i have ever seen, thats not being dramatic i have not seen as many as some life long observers but of all the fights i have seen he is the worst. He was clearly corrupted, not biased, not unfair but CORRUPT, plain and simple. Constantly telling off Reid for using his head, What was he suppose to do when he had Ottke jumping in at every opportunity? Ottke is a very unproffesional fighter, moaning at the ref for none existant fouls and trying to get a fellow pro deducted points is terrible unproffessional behaviour. Early on when Reid went for a bodyshot Ottke turned and it hit his kidney, Ottke complained and Reid was repremanded, if Ottke was not twisting his body he would not have been caught, he was in the wrong.

I have not seen the shot in the sixth again when Ottke went down, at first glance it appeared to be a legitimate knockdown but i aint sure, the point deduction then happened and Reid had a mountain to climb. I cannot believe at one point the ref told off Reid for landing a punch!!! Ain't that the point of frigging Boxing?!!?! Reid seemed to run out of steam and his conditioning appeared to let him down which surprised me a little.

On the whole Ottke is a poor champion who has been kept as a title holder due to bad judging and corruption, i might as well say it i believe it's true. He's a dire fighter and will retire undefeated, hall of fame? Dont make me laugh.

if you've never seen him fight and look at his record, you'd think 'wow, he won the IBF title against a good fighter, defended it 10 000 times against good opposition, then unified and fought and beat more good fighters! and unbeaten! looks like he is great! show a tape of him to that person and i doubt he'd believe its the same guy.

ottke's constant routine of losing the first half of the fight through doing nothing, then 'picking up the pace' (clumsily throwing his body in, with shoulders, head, no punching technique whatsoever, the crowd roaring with delight at his crude sprawling technique) combined with his hiding out in germany, combined with the bitching and whineing, combined with his national hero status, combined with the awful robberies of his opponents, make him a very sad, nasty joke of a fighter.

at least out of this list calzaghe only complies with the 'hiding out in own country' option.

Totally agree Riddick, although on second glance i think that maybe Ottke stole the fight after all, your assessment is correct. He is a poor offering as a champion, he moans and groans a lot and is totally unprofessional. The crowd always makes me laugh when they roar at a punch that has clearly not landed, they make a noise whenever there man moves forward at pace and i always think to myself "Those judges better not be falling for that!!" But sadly often they are doing just that.

I was watching Akinwande-Schulz II recently and the crowd were very similar, Akinwande deservedly took the decision but everytime the dire Schulz ran forward they screamed even though he was clearly second best in every department. Henry actually took the decision quite fairly which was a surprise but the fight reminded me a little of Nelson-Petkovic with the limited slugger being tamed a by a better Boxer.

Boxer being the key word, "come forward" is an overused term these days in a sport which many forget is all about BOXING.
