Hatton v Alvarez almost called off

It seems like Hattons almost pulled the plug when Canelo didn't make the weight. Unlike Goldenboy to leave things to chance. i wonder if Ricky really would have told Matthew not to fight and did HBO put pressure on to save the show ?

It would be a dumb move on Hatton's part to pull the plug because of the weight issue. He is getting the biggest payday of his career (plus an extra $35 k from Alvarez) and will never have a similiar moment in the global spotlight.

Apparently Canelo cannot weigh more than 160 at 3 P.M. tommorow, so he won't be able to gain back a huge amount of weight.

So they are going to pull the plug then? if he isnt 160? i think its a robbery. Hatton should have won the title on the scales. Why even have the catch weight. Just put it at 154. I dont even think alvarez even intended on making 150. So why even bother contracting at that! its for a light middle title so have the bloody fight at 154.

Haha rant over

Fight was made at 150 BEFORE title tag was added

It's a bizzare fight: A ginger Mexican fighting at a phantom weight ( whatever weight he wants, in fact ) being gifted a "WBC world title" against a boxer who's being gifted a shot because: 1/ His brother is famous & 2/ He's a cert to get beat & make Alvarez look great.

Golden Boy are flexing their muscle and pushing their man for a title shot, come what may and to hell with everyone else.
No wonder most people think their lap dogs HBO have lost the plot ( along with Manny Pac ).

Good luck to Matt, but Alvarez looks like a special talent, reminds me a bit of an up and coming Vargas - maybe better. Can't remember which fight it was, but recall Saul getting caught and hurt in one of his break through fights, and the way he negotiated that and came back to win was very impressive.

Alvarez is going to be huge come fight time, are boxer weighed just before the fight to see how much they have gained?

HBO do unofficial in-ring weights.

OK, so now they ARE fighting for the title it should be at 154.

Personally I dont think Hatton should be fighting for any kind of world title.

Disgraceful from Alvarez and to me the fight should be called off if he breaks the contract

Not sure really, probably similar to Margarito's 165 vs Pacquiao.

Alvarez, bless him, he's a growing lad. Been at 147 most of his career and now he can't do 150. If I were Hatton I wouldn't be too unhappy with this, a weight-drained fighter can't be feeling at his strongest.

If he's happy for him to fight with the extra weight just for an extra bit of cash then he can't be holding out much hope. Can't see it going past 5

Yeah, Alvarez will be a full blown middleweight in a few years.

What total rubbish.

Correct diet and training and you can hit the weight.

Boxers who hit a certain weight as a grown adult should always be able to hit the correct weight.

I am a competing natural bodybuilder and you cannot tell me anything about making weight. Laziness is all it is and an inability to dedicate to making the weight.

If you knew so much perhaps you'd realise that a 20 year old may not be fully grown.

Chortle!

Laziness/uneducation, I can guarantee it

I can hit the same weight I did at 18 (I am now 36) if I wanted to and still be fit and strong.

It is really not hard at all.

Diet, weight training, cardio training, good nutrition, done.

What if he's trying to build muscle? To say he's lazy because in your experience you 'could' (which presumably means you aren't) get to the same weigh is very ignorant, so is presuming everyone develops physically in the same way. How much do you actually know about the guy?

De La Hoya is a great PR man :TU:

He kinda shatters every stereo-type of the ex-boxer.

Yeah lets give every advantage to Alvarez, so he can win.

Then we will get the usuall posts of how great Alvarez looked and how good he is going to be.......until he gets beat.

I don't think he was even going to make 150. So he is not weight drained at all. It took him 2 hours to lose 8oz. Doesnt sound like someone really busting a gut does it

Why would he pay a $70k fine rather than try to make weight, if he only had 2 pounds to lose?

If alvarez cant weigh in over 160 and has had trouble making 150 - it could play in hattons favour - if he's been genuinely trying to loose that weight he may well be a bit weaker when he gets in the ring.
