Caiden Onfroy aged 22 turned to boxing 18months ago as a way to turn his back on a life of crime,since he started he has had 12 bouts and won 11,getting to the national novice final by beating his opponent in the semis by ko, in april last year he wanted to give more of his time to boxing and asked if he could become a coach,so we sent off his crb and waited, the week before the final last month the yorkshire secratary called and told us he was excluded from boxing and to throw him out of the gym,

This is the first ever case of banning a young amateur for having a bad criminal record,we know for a fact that a gb number 1 was in bother for serious assult and the England reps gave him charactor references, another boxer is active now after serving a manslaughter charge,
The ABA encourage us to work with bad kids and get kids off the street but yet they want us to push him back to the life he had before,
since starting the sport caiden as kept out of trouble,he has a lovely baby boy to one of our female boxers and set up home with her and is in the gym 6 days a week,

we also work with community service and have people doing their hours at the gym, so what are the aba playing at,They have ruined a young mans life by stopping him reaching his goal

Strange one. I'm all in favour of giving a crim a second chance.

alot of his crimes were commited at 14 year old but the fact is he is now a responsible adult and when he is training he is being supervised,but if ppl are boxing with manslaughter and god knows what ,then he should be able too,the aba are pricks

So he's been banned completely? I think it's a disgrace, I believe if you've done the time for a crime it shouldn't hold you back. I though the CRB was just to check for sex offenders/paedos etc? I can understand the aba not wanting an ex drug dealer or something like that coaching kids if it's recent but this shouldn't stop him from training completely!

Sounds bizarre, there's a lot of hardened criminals who've been allowed a second chance. Definitely worth a query, maybe someone on the board has an agenda

Hope he gets a review from the ABA in that case. We all need a second chance

and the ABA wonder why us white collar promotors are growing , Hes welcome to box on one of my shows if he wants to keep active and the ABA dont change their mind , i do them in Notts and South Yorks so im in close proximity , Pm me if ever need anymore info .

That doesn't sound good mate - hope it's not the nature of the offences which have led to the decision.

Has the fella been completely open with you about everything? If he has then it should go public

we accept he cant be a coach,but as for a boxer he is under supervision,We will push for every senior boxer to now have a crb, and i know it will kill senior boxing as most ppl involved with boxing will have got some sort of record, we dont want this to happen but we have to support out boxer

caiden as been completely honest , we have aske his solicitor to look into sueing the aba richard cabourne dint wanno know either,he made out as though he was helping but he wasnt, we have now told the aba we will go to boxing news/monthly local and national press plus calender and look north, but they want £250 to appeal,cheeky gets

Yes mate I would definately go public, the ABA can't get away with treating people like this! It's about time the whole Amatuer scene in this country was reviewed and sorted top to bottom! Theres to much power given to aba officials and this is another great example of it!

Bang out of order near enough every boxer i grew up with had some form of record,if were all being honest them type of lads including my self are the type of kids who make good fighters not that i was the best.Kids who grew up with nothing who's parents are not the best role models are the bread and butter of the fighting game.Don't get me wrong this is not always the case but when i grew up it was.Shaun.

The law is a bit awkward when working with kids, some exceptions are made if you've got a criminal record (e.g. you've shown reform and you want to work with a youth club). IMO the best role models are those who've been there, got the badge and come back better people. I'd understand based on the nature of the crime that they might not want him working with young people.

BUT To ban a guy permanently from boxing is pathetic, I mean, look at some of the promoters, they're not exactly the best role models, then the top professionals.

IMO you should go public with it - and start a petition up to add backing.

Yes mate I would definately go public, the ABA can't get away with treating people like this! It's about time the whole Amatuer scene in this country was reviewed and sorted top to bottom! Theres to much power given to aba officials and this is another great example of it!

the thing is,caiden hasnt killed anyone, and is a decent bloke,but the police dont like him,and he done his time and now settled down with a kid and his spare time he was occupied by going to the gym,but like i said if a gb boxer is getting references from England coaches it shows how sad they are,but when we get every bit of info possible on the case the ABA will be in big trouble.....caiden is not workin with kids he trains with the pros and seniors the only people he works with are us the coaches

Can't do anything about that now but you will get the ban lifted and you can always get a bout against the national champion as a bit of a softener.

If hes training with pros and has won 11 out of 12 am fights can he not just go pro , despite him being a relative novice , several guys have gone pro with no amateur background , it may not be the ideal , as if it was you would have already done this but its a possible option

I'm fairly certain that John Simpson has either served time for drug dealing or admitted that he used to deal (probably the former, because otherwise you probably wouldn't admit it or you'd get charged). And I mean that in no way to disparage Simpson whatsoever who is one of my favourite fighters and if I'm wrong I take it back and apologize. But I'm certain that the Greenock man said that in an interview in the last 2 years or so.

I'm all for giving a druggie a boxing licence if it helps him clean up his act, but a repeat offence should carry a lifetime ban from participating in the sport imo.

For the more heinous crimes....violence, gbh, manslaughter etc....I'm less enthusiastic about being allowed to box. What's the point in arming a bad egg with the tools be be even more of a menace. Imo.

I met Caiden when he came up with Liam Cameron to our gym for sparring.From the impression i got from chatting with him i would gladly sign a petition.

The Yorkshire ABA......a bunch of jokers who have let a little bit of power go to there head......it was the same when i boxed and doesnt seem to have changed.....
