which is the best fight you ever saw in terms of skill? one
of the best i watched as of recent was holmes-whiterspoon.
i just liked it.

I don't know if you mean a fight where both fighters exhibited high levels of skill, or a fight where one man showed a stunning repertoire of skills or executed tactics to perfection, but I'm assuming you mean the latter, so I'm nominating 2 fights:-

1) Michael Watson -v- Nigel Benn - One of the finest execution of tactics I've ever seen. Watson had the perfect plan to defeat the rampaging & reckless Benn, without coming to any harm whatsoever. It was so good that he managed to sapp Benn's energy to the point where he KOd Benn with a single light jab.

2) Joe Calzaghe -v- Jeff Lacy - A total masterclass from Calzaghe, where he never let the highly fancied Lacy get into any type of rhythm. OK, Joe was blessed with superhuman stamina, thus allowing him to hit Lacy with that volume of punches, but nevertheless, he was flawless that night.

As far as one-sided displays against elite-level opposition goes, it's hard to top Kalambay's performance against McCallum in their first fight. Park vs Canto is certainly up there, though.

actually i meant a very skillful fight on both sides. i guess
there are many great fights where a man with good skill
can be brilliant because he dominates, but rarely you have
this matchup of great skills both ways. these are not necessarily
crowd pleasing fights, but great nevertheless.

Hagler-Duran both men looked really good IMO and boxed well.

though as well about duran-leonard 1, but then leonard was
too flat footed. was a great, great fight, but more a war than
a boxing style event.

btw the absolute opposite of what i mean here was foreman-lyle.
fantastic match, but definitely not skill-wise.

Oops, sorry about that; in that case, I'd like to nominate Thomas Hearns -v- Wilfredo Benitez fight, with an honourable mention to Bernard Hopkins -v- Ronald Wright.

Three fights come to my mind boxing wise:
Whitaker vs McGirt I
Leonard vs Benitez
Toney vs McCallum I

These fights you learn lots of tricks.

McCallum - Toney had a high amount of in-ring skill between the two men, too.

Buchanan-Laguna I and II

rewatched leonard hearns I ... master piece of ring
tactics. almost unbelievable what leonard pulled of
there.

Benitez vs Leonard was a very good technical scrap

In the last 10 years I thought De La Hoya vs Vargas was pretty exciting boxing match with a pretty high skill level shown by both men.

Toney vs Jirov is a great one as far as a great counter-puncher vs a terrific in-fighter

I'm sure there are lots more, but those are the first 3 that popped in my head

Banke/Zaragoza III? Although they were straight out brawls so not at all what you were looking for.

SRR vs Gavilan 1&2 must have been something
Jones vs Toney could have been but wasn't really

I thought the Vazquez-Marquez trilogy was a great example of effective offensive Boxing from both sides. Both guys were throwing their shots with textbook form and accuracy and both had to adjust their combinations to what the other guy did continuously.

One that's not bound to pop up otherwise: Howard Winstone vs Baby Luis.

When did you stipulate both men had to be, 'boxers?' You asked for fights involving copious amounts of skill on display from both men.
