James De Gale

Does anyone else find his continual "ugly" put downs to George Groves less than endearing?

Understand trash talking to hype a rivalry / fight but this just makes him come across a bit of a spiteful dick IMO...

It's prefight banter, not to be taken too seriously. It builds fights, puts bums on seats and gets the boxers more £$$£$$£$'s. It's all part of the game IMO

It is a bit silly; I imagine deGale gets more female attention now he's 'famous' and loaded, it's not down to his looks. (George isn't a man I'd class as 'ugly' in any case).

groves isnt ugly thats for sure, he use to call him ginger ugly kid but the ginger bit stopped, it wont wind groves up, although i think degale will win and his also a character, i dont believe he needs to act like this !

DeGale comes across as a dick full stop, arrogance and ignorance go hand in hand so he may well be surprised when he does step in the ring with Groves. However I do like the arroagance, so long as he can keep winning and fighting well then no-one will care, but likeable he is not! He's got a big ugly mingin head, if he wasn;t a boxer I can't imagie him getting loads of girls.

It doesn't do DeGale any favours - I'm sure he'd actually like to be popular with fans over here - but his ranting after last week's fight will have turned off a lot of people. He came across as a dick I thought.

I think he's misjudged it a bit - there's no need to get personal - he's an Olympic champ, he can be arrogant sure, but going on about ginger and ugly all the time, he comes over like a schoolyard bully.
It seems Groves really gets to him ( probably because he beat him ) because if it's only about selling tickets, why didn't he dish out the same to Paul Smith ?

Anyway, it's up to him obviously, but I find it a bit odd, because in his radio interview, he came over as a nice guy, humble and wanting to be liked by the fans.

I think he's just messing about, he's just having a good team and enjoying himself no malice in his comments

Ugly kid is just a jokey insult, Groves said just as bad things back to Degale

Nine threads on the first page of the forum about Groves and Degale. He may be a **** but he's doing a good job by the looks of it. Already got friends who are "casual fans" asking me about this fight.

Degale is a likeable prat.

He does have his fair share of 'facepalm' moments though when he trys to trash talk it must be said.

DeGales behaviour is infantile. He acts like a mere child

is the correct answer, Groves is just a normal looking feller, I once read someone describe kevin mitchell as good looking, so suppose its peoples perception, Degales just tryin to wind him up

Out of interest, has anyone met or knows Degale? Is he in reality as much of a tit as he comes across on all TV appearances?

Some people--such as The Law and King G--have said that he comes across much better in person. Others have said he was still a tit. I think Deno1986 mentioned that he met Degale when he was still an amateur and he came across pretty poorly.

DeGale has been very fortunate to get this opportunity off the back of a loss. I hope he wins and goes on to great things with his potential.

He did win, greatness is a long way off but. He's certainly been exposed a bit at a higher level.

True - and he is hardly Brad Pitt himself !

I read an interview recently and Degale said it was hurtful when people took the micky out of his looks and called him "horse head" !

I don't understand, with all his money and fame - why the long face ? (ba boom shhhhhhhhhhhh ..............)

It is weird though as some boxers (Eubank, Naz) go for the almost pantomime arrogant villain approach and are loved for it, whilst others try it and it actually puts people off them.
