Apologies if this has been mentioned previously but has anyone seen this show on the Discovery Channel?

Tyson and his love of pigeons, and a contest to race them etc. It's a new series, or at least it seems to be. I caught the first 10 minutes of it, got the first two to watch.

Tyson was great when he first came along, made me fall inlove with boxing but a shit human being. pidgeons or not.

Love him or hate him the programme is on Discovery, and it seems pretty well put together.

It's a year today I sat down with him in North Wales and talked, and I still get goose bumps. Most intense 15 minutes of my life.

I watched it & thought it was good.

Being in Britain, I don't get to see or hear much about Tyson these days, but he seems to be very similar to when he was ruling the HW division in the late 80s & doesn't appear to be affected by boxing.

His love of pigeons is a real eye opener (although I've always known this was the case).

I never realised that pigeon racing was such a big thing amongst youngish men on the Eastern side of the USA.

I wonder how that culture developed over time?

Slurring his words, serious nervous tension, little or no money, bitterness about the sport, treated like a freak, forced to tour Britain and Europe to make money, legacy tainted by losses to Williams and McBride, legacy tainted by 101 issues and incidents out of the ring during and after his career.....

The list is endless.

Difficult to pity a man who's done the things he has and thrown it all away (tens of millions), but there are moments when you do feel a little sorry for the guy, which is astonishing when you consider how he used to strike such fear into the hearts of his opponents, the media etc.

good to see him turn things around and get on without boxing.

looks in great shape at the minute.

lost respect for him midway thru his pro career.

just became a dirty joke and embarrassed the sport time and again.

but he's kept his nose clean in recent years.

back in shape after that bloated period.

trying to get his life together after boxing.

if he's earning money with speaking tours and this new programme then good luck to him.

That's something I remember mike saying in some interview,certainly true for him.

I watched the pigeon programme,found it boring simply because I don't like pigeons I guess.

I thought his speech sounded the same as it always had done.

I don't get to see much of Tyson these days, so I'll have to rewatch some old footage to compare, to make sure my brain isn't playing tricks on me. :P

Everybody is the way they are for a reason. I think the fact he openly acknowledges what a shit human being he was at every opportunity shows humility. Throughout his boxing career, and from a young age, he was used as a meal ticket by many, and was constantly arse licked by everybody around him, telling him he could do no wrong. This is bound to cause psychological damage somewhere along the line.

Not for me. Tyson has been on a personal journey for some time to become a better person and the first step on that journey for anyone is to be honest with yourself,I admire him for refusing to sugar coat anything and accepting responsibility for his actions.He may not have done that in the past but I think he is now.
Someone with a crippling lack of self-esteem isn't likely to even step foot out of their house,it takes confidence to admit where you've gone wrong and be as open as he has.
And let's not forget it must be 1000 times harder for him to change than your average joe.

I'm not trying to be judgmental here, just saying that interviews I've seen / heard with Mike, including more recent ones, don't suggest him to be somebody that is happy with who he is to me. I do hope that he can be.
