Anyone going to Wigan ? Shame its the second week running at Robin Park. Not sure whats going on there......anyway from looking at their records I think Vassell might have his work cut out, if Ushona is anything like his record (23-0).

These Africans are an unknown quantity & IMO most arent as good as the records they have, fed mainly on a diet of unknown Africans.
I think Denton wins easily.

If Ushonas victory over Ali Nuumbembe (sp) is a genuine one then it shows he's no mug, as Ali was a very decent boxer. I seem to remember Ali or his trainer kicking up a stink about the judging in that one though (I may have dreamt it), but don't they always.

Vassells trainer was also singing Oshunas praises as a fighter, saying he was strong, fit and awkward, but I never read too much into what an opposing trainer says when he's praising an unknown opponent.

Should be a good fight IMO as mini-Tyson likes to get stuck in

From what he says in this interview Ushona seems to be looking beyond Denton - and as we all know that can be a big mistake. I think he is a bit cocky.....

Havn't seen anything of Ushona but looking at his record he can be considered a live opponent. It's very hard to know what to expect when an African is brought over but he is unbeaten, has gone 12 rounds on numerous occasions all of which he has won by wide margins. As Chambers pointed out, his win over former Commonwealth champion Ali Nuumbembe is impressive albeit being over 6 years ago. I've already had a blind bet on him at 3/1.

depending on what those skanks L-a-dbrokes are offering round the corner from me I may well do the same.....6 years is a bit of a gap but I suspect Denton is more muscle than skill.

The Nuumbembe victory is a big factor for me. I know Nuumbembe retired from boxing in the UK, went back to Africa, fought again and got done by some up and comer....but 6 year ago is round about the time Nuumbembe was beating Kevin Anderson and some other good fighters.

I'm also a reader into what fighters say prior to fights. I remember Degale saying Smith could say/ do this that and the other but he wouldn't have an answer to his fitness and his angles and i remember thinking - yes.........And now this Ushona guy that beat a prime Ali is saying he ain't even looked at Vassell cos he'll work him out in a round. If he could do Nuumbembe he'll whup Vassell imo.

Late win by stoppage.....I think you can forget your points. Could even go in 5 if he's in the mood. I must add, Vassell comes across good in his conditioning and the little I've read from him and I hope, and expect, that he will give a good account of himself.

just stuck a few quid on Ushona to win inside at 10-1 and also a sidebet on points at 7's.

it don't sound like he's a banger (8 early in 23 I believe) but that doesn't mean he can't hit. I initially thought this was one of the guys that stopped Nuumbembe but he didn't. A significant edge in skill can be as important as power when it comes to finding a stoppage and I got a feeling Ushona will to too smart and too slick for Vassell.

Ushoma looks like he should be have decent so hopefully gives Vassell a tough, hard fight. Vassell looks like a good talent and is very strong for the weight. Should be a good one!

Really looking forward to this one. Then again, I look forward to every saturday night! On paper, difficult to pick a winner. But i reckon Vassell will get the nod after 12 hard rounds.

Yeah, why so many events in Wigan? Few if any fighters are from there- and some bigger places (Preston, Blackburn, etc) never have live shows.

Nor does Joan Guzman or Ruslan Chagaev - or any other Tyson I can think of.
I suppose the closest would be "Cliff "Twin Tyson" Couser, except he was a dirt poor man's version of Iron Mike.

It's a very overused nickname.
