Wayne Reed v Joe Ainscough scorecards

We all know the controversy over the scorecards on this bout. What happened here? For me Reed pulled away after the first round and won the bout. He looked to have it in the bag and then dropped Joey with a clean shot; the last punch of the bout. Cock up or conspiracy? Big bets on the local lad or short sightedness by the judge(s)? What do people think?

would not surprise me if the BBB of C have special scoring designed for prizefighter. they must have some modifications as it should be impossible to score a draw because of the competition.

I had Reed winning 29-27. I can see how someone would arrive at 28-28, but there is no way Ainscough should have won. Obviously the judges scored the last round to avoid the draw, which is complete bullocks. IJL's scorecard is still baffling. Kind of reminds me of when Ian Lewison dropped his opponent three times and controlled the other parts of the bout only to get a draw in a 4 rounder. Sometimes you just say "WTF?"

Also, watching the decision, you can see Ainscough get a dejected look on his face when the 30-28 card was announced, probably thinking he had lost. Even he must think it was a bs card.

Was a joke that scoring, was watching it with a few lads some who dont really watch boxing and even they thought it was shocking, i would be livid if i had money on it, The IJL card id jus like to see how he could expain it, giving a boxer a 10-9 round when he's recieved a knockdown,

Cock up, not conspiracy. It happens. A bit like football, refs can't come out and talk publicly, as far as I know. But I'm sure the Board will issue a statement over this.

Of it's a draw I'm pretty sure the judges are asked who they thought won the fight personally and with there only being 3 judges the decision cannot be another draw.. ;)

I thought Ainscough was crap after the first round. His gameplan was pretty much wild swings and sustained but rather uneducated pressure. In the 2nd round he carried on trying what he'd done in the 1st round but Reed caught him with some lovely counters and for me did the far better and cleaner work in the 2nd round, Ainsocugh looked gassed and out of ideas. Then the last round was a clear Reed round plus the KD should have sealed it up. Can't believe the scoring for this, farcical really.

i spoke to robert smith after. it seems that lewis gave first two rounds to ainscough - fair enough. some people saw that. i certainly did. first yes, second just edged.

the third it seems lewis had ainscough winning it - but - with joey being clipped and decked with the last punch of the fight he used his discretion (which he can actually do - a knockdown is NOT a mandatory 10-8 round) to score the round 9-9. which you cant have, so he raised that as he should have done - to 10-10. odd? yes. i had it 28-28 which would have raised another intriguing possibility. extra round? countback? who knows.

ps - i'm just the messenger here!

even setting the knockdown aside i cannot understand how anyone could score that last round for ainscough - Reed boxed his head off then dropped him. I had it:

Ainscough 10-9
Reed 10-9
Reed 10-8

I think he has just made that up to be honest. For a start,Reed had already wobbled Ainscough early in the round and was winning it BEFORE the knockdown. Also, has there ever been another example ever of IJL using his discretion to score a round with a knockdown in 10-10?If i could be arsed to check,i bet you would find they were all 10-8's including some that were a lot less clear cut than Ainscough-Reed.As Ian said in another thread,it was literally imposssible to give that an even round.Well,i thought it was.The board wont even care as there is only us lot who realise what went on,99% of the viewers that night will have forgotten all about it by now.

They won't have forgotten, they just won't care very much. They will have even less respect for boxing having seen that.

The judges at PrizeFighter shows should be under no pressure to not score a fight a draw.

The fans and Wayne especially deserve an explanation of how Ian John Lewis can give Ainscough 30 points when he clearly lost the round and got put down in the process, the judging was a joke.

IJL's and Marcus McDonnells (IMO) scoring of the fight potentially cost Reed over 20K and went a long way to spoiling the Prizefighter, Reed Vs Rocky in the semi would've been far more competitive than than Rocky Vs Ainscough.

Will the BBBC do their job and find out what went on? Doesn't look like it :shame:

Isn't it pretty obvious what went on?

They don't need an investigation, they just need to sort out the PrizeFighter judging situation.

If the judges see the fight as a draw they should score it that way. The referee can decide who goes through when it is a draw, or he can toss a coin.

Ian John Lewis needs shooting for his judging on this. REALLY bad judging. Clearly there is some hometown favouritism going on as well for Ainscough to have won that fight. These things spoil boxing, big hard luck to you Wayne I was fuming so god knows how much more fuming you and your trainer were!

That doesn't explain to me how Ainscough got 30 points on IJL's card or how it's possible considering what went on in the last round

If it was simply a mistake then someone should come out and say so and apologise profusely to Wayne and his team, if there are new rules where someone can get his ears boxed off and put down in the same round and still get 10 points then I must've missed it

yep it felt strange in the room there because there's a lot of goodwill towards Joe for what he's been through and the bravery for coming back, but i don't think even the most fervent of his hometown support deepdown thought he REALLY won the fight - he won the fight in terms of actually getting into the ring after that horrible incident, but feel sorry for Reed who was the fall guy for what was essentially a sympathy vote.

Everyone knew Joe, who had a lot of talent especially as an amateur, was going to get destroyed in the semi and was happy he got that moment, but really unfair on Wayne Reed who paid for it

IJL now has the Briggs fiasco and this and it makes you wonder. I'm sure he's a good guy but shocking errors both.
