Oddest quote by Solis
Posted: 30 Mar 2011, 14:54
by Old bones Ian
“I’ve seen how easy it is to beat Vitali,” said Odlanier Solis, in an interview with the Passauer Neuen Presse. “If the injury didn’t occur, I would have taken him apart. He is a boxing zero. I was surprised how weak he is.” Solis said the fight with Klitschko changed his perspective on boxing. “I used to only see boxing as a job. That’s changed. Now I have a dream, a goal for which I’m working. I want to become world champion and stay there a long, long time.”
Ummmmm shouldn't that of been his goal to start with?? And Vitali wasn't the one wobbling from a glancing blow!

I actually thought Solis was dealing with him well until the injury. I really was looking like it was going to be very intresting

It's defo an odd quote. Solis did appear to have the tools to trouble Klitschko. I guess you have to file it under "we'll never know". Bring on the rematch.

Solis defo had some skills no doubt, and surprising fast for a portly fellow.

He was doing alright, but half a round is enough to convince him he was about to hand out a boxing lesson against the 'weak' Vitali

Better fit he actualy TRAINS for a fight and turn up in a half tidy condition. Could not believe how fat he was at the weigh-in

I dont think you can write off vitali from half a round, especially when he ended up winning in that round. But it must have definatley given haye some more confidence.
Solis may knuckle down now and get in shape, giving one of the klits a run for their money for the time he did would certainly make you think that if you really trained you could don the division.
Also i dont personally think he was that hurt by the shot, stunned maybe, enough to stop a man no way. Even lewis was saying that shot was weak and not enough to do that to solis.

And that's the last we'll ever hear from Solis

I'd actually really like to see a rematch, particularly if Solis took his training more seriously this time. Doubt they'll be able to sell rematch tho.
Be interesting to see if guys like Boytsov and Povetkin get a bit braver off all the talk of Vitali being there for the taking or if they carry on sitting tight for his retirement.

Look what would have happened to those who judged the outcome of the Tsyzu-Judah fight on the basis of the first round...

A lot of people wrote Vitali off when he quit against Byrd. I think it's a little premature to write off Solis.

Well I didn't write him off, I was what he did to Hide and I knew he was a hard trainer.

What crap from Solis. Whilst the injury looked 100% genuine how can he ignore the fact the he was sent down by a legitimate punch, and not a great one at that.

One major factor against his future success is that he struggled to get under 260 when he was doing at least some semblance of roadwork. With a buckled knee and at least 3-4 months away from the gym he'll be lucky if he returns to camp under 300lbs. Try running at that weight, he'll be lucky if the knee doesn't pop again almost instantly....

Yes but Vitali wasn't turning up to weigh ins looking like Free Willy's body double was he? Solis may have skills, but he is fat as rass and clearly isn't dedicated.
Why on earth would you come into a world title fight not motivated to train and get in shape.
Solis is full of cack - he's just trying to resurrect his chances at elite level with a load of old blarney. Chances are, he will hang around underachieving for the next 5-6 years, maybe get another title shot at some point, and blow that one.

Oi, we aren't all that fat!
Besides, if Odlanier shares JC Gomez's fave pass-times it'll be nose candy & rum FTW.

yes he was.... but the punch totally detached Solis from his mind before the injury.
It's like Carl Williams saying he was on the way to beating Tyson...until Mike landed

x3 it was the first time vitali had landed with even half a decent shot, and it scrambled solis enough for his brain synapses to part company with his legs, thats how he got injured. there will be no rematch, solis will be out for a year if he needed surgery, 6 months if he did not!
