Im one for Aussie fighting Aussies so why is it that some Aussie fighters are not takeing fights with there Aussie oponents. l know of one fighter who has had three oponents all pulled out. This fighter has only had two fights and there pulling out already. Tell me does he have to fight oponents from OS Tailand Philipines just to get a fight.

Which weight division is he in? In the low weight divisions there is a numbers problem. There are only 25 ranked Australian fighters listed between flyweight and super featherweight.

Hopefully this welter weight super series takes off, I'll be putting my money where my mouth is and be going along to the next one, as this is creating Aussie vs Aussie fights amongst state/Aust. title level fighters, exactly what the sport needs. There is also something interesting happening down here called the Professional boxing Union, all I know about it so far is it isn't another sanctioning body and has some good people behind it, I'll post more about it as I learn more.

hope to hear more about it, only hope it doesn,t end up getting the same treatment like the Boxers&Trainers Guild did back in the late 40,s and early 50,s,the promoters killed it, tried to stir similiar interest about ten years ago, but we had no starters, fighters will battle to get a fair go until they unite, all the best

Dberry mentioned the pro boxing union and i will elaborate on it as its a great idea started by a good friend of mine. The idea is to get all our boxers together especially in melb and have them fighting on a regular basis. This will mean alot of amateurs that wont fight for national honors will become professionals and all go into a pool to fight each other. No more he wont fight him for whatever reason just a fair pool of fighters with a draw and all doing four round fights until they improve and move up to bigger things. This will help trainers get the boys the experience they need and move up in oz boxing and hopefully beyond. It needs trainers support so we can get these lads regular fights. Instead of a promo every three months put one on every month with lots of fights. These will be fairly matched and can only help our sport. If any trainers need more info let me know but this is a great idea

This is how it was explained to me, a bit of a hark back to the T.V. Ringside days of matchmaking and regular fighting. With the positive and passionate people behind, such as Stus, and it gets the support of boxing fans and trainers/fighters instead of ridicule and negativity, it will improve the pool of professional fighters here, improve the quality of fights, especially at the four-six round level, prolong the careers of older fighters and improve the level of experience of fighters stepping up as well as hopefully getting more people interested in boxing and through the doors to watch the fights.
This
hasto be good for boxing in this country. We all know that boxing in Australia needs all the help, input and new ideas it can get as it is surely in trouble.

That is a fantastic idea. I voiced something similar about it happening in the UK as you get novice pros getting in with amateur stars and these novice pros end up with bad losing records but always end up with lots of work. This idea would stop that and let novice pros and average amateurs to fight at their own level and allow them to build a decent record.

Excellent idea!

Then there is the Aussie's bashing Kiwi bums to pad the records and no doubt there is a good supply of cash for fall guys from across the ditch.... that sucks too.

It will be a great thing for boxing in victoria and hopefully australia. It needs people to get behind it and it will work. More even fights on a regular basis which lets be honest as trainers and fighters this is what we want. The man behind the idea is a very good promoter, has been in the game years and is dedicated to making this work. Unfortunately some people will bag it before it begins but thats life. Anton stop being a grumpy old prick. u got to much to offer a good forum without all the negativity. If blokes like myself and dberry can stop taking the piss out of each other and get behind a great idea surely u can.

The idea had popped up few times over the years. After everyone had a good laugh it was promptly forgotten

Hopefully it won't be forgoton , has it was put to me, its the chance for the lower echolon to get fights, and compete against each other, instead of ONLY getting asked if they want a fight when a promoter is looking for someone his superstar can beat up ,in a mismatch, sounds like a good idea.hope it works.

Sounds more like a boxing League or something than a boxing Union...

Have they had big crowds at them fight series fights? Have they got big sponsorship? Because if the fighters aren't selling tickets where is the money going to come from? Look at the promotors that have been promoting for a while, they all get the fighters to sell tickets, promotors that don't get fighters to sell aren't around for long.

It is like that film with Kevin Costner when he built his baseball team 'build it and they will come' or something like that. People are going to come and watch 50/50 fights than the 90/10 most boxing is nowadays. People don't go to the boxing these days because people can pick the winner in most cases.
