27 of Maidanas 29 wins have come by stoppage. Only Kotelnik, Khan and Corley have managed to go twelve rounds with him.

From Sep-05 to Aug-07 Morales had 4 fights at world level (Super Featherweight and Lightweight) and lost all 4, 2 by KO. He came back a year ago and has had 3 fights at Light Welter against weak opposition, scoring 1 KO (over Willie Limond).

Does anybody give Morales a chance of winning this fight, or even lasting the distance?

I'm going for a Maidan stoppage win. May not be early but I think he will wear him down and stop him around the 9th round.

Reminds me to check my account with Bet365 - hoping Concepcion vs Marquez wasn't one of the listed fights in my accumulator.

Morales is a true warrior but Maidana is an animal who won't give Morales any respect or any time to try and get his boxing going. Morales doesn't have the speed any more to outbox Maidana so I think he'll have to stand with him and try and outfight him (which is next to impossible!) I see Marco being far too strong and powerful stopping El Terrible into retirement around the 7th round

It's the most likely outcome for the fight IMO, but I wouldn't be lumping heavy on it............ because it's Morales he's up against

The thing which intrigues me about this fight is: does anyone really think that Marcos Maidana is more capable than David Diaz? 'Cos I bloody don't. Stronger, yes. A better hitter, definitely. But he's so crude & slow I can see the version of Morales that lost the squeaker to Diaz having lots of success, myself, & I still think Erik hits hard enough to keep the young'un off him.

I wouldn't bet on it, but Morales is deffo going to be hitting Maidana harder than Khan was, & I really can't see Maidana blowing him away. Grinding him down late on maybe, but Maidana is not Manny Pacquiao.

This is up another weight though and Diaz is hardly mr strongman/impose his will on guys at 135. We saw how weak he looked at times against Soto, who is can be ridiculously open and completely there for the taking. I mean, this is the Diaz that just squeaked by a ridiculously shop worn Chavez. I think the Morales fight said more about how poor Diaz is, than how good Morales may still be.

The David Diaz fight was three and a half years ago! That's how long it will have been since Morales has been in at world level. Why should he be any better now moving up in weight after such a long lay off? I don't even think he'll be near the level he was at when he fought Diaz. Morales is only 34 and plenty of other fighters have been able to carry on their careers at such an age, but Morales has had a long and tough career and has shown all the signs of a shot fighter.

All one needs to do is look at his last fight. He fought Francisco Lorenzo. This guy is ranked 68th in the world, the fight took place in Morales home town of Tijuana, yet one of the judges only gave it to him by a point! The scores were 116-111, 115-112 & 114-113.

So Morales only just about managed to scrape by a guy who had won only two of his previous six bouts, and even worse, he had come up to Light Welter for it, a weight he had never previously fought at, and had in fact fought as a Super Featherweight in seven of his previous eight fights.

It does not look good for Morales!

It's not a dead cert stoppage win for Maidana.

Morales can carry a shot better than Khan can.

A sneaky fiver on Morales on points could be a nifty little bet. I bet nobody gives him a chance.

I think if Morales wins any rounds it will be because he's surviving. I don't think Maidana is going to put on any sort of boxing clinic here but I just don't see how Morales is going to win.

Personally I can see Morales lasting the distance, even with the speed gone a world class operator like Erik could see the final bell so at 1/2 its not one I'd be getting involved in.

A far better bet IMO is Berto to stop Ortiz @ 5/4

No such thing as free money in the betting world and at 1/2 it ain't exactly great value is it.
IMO it will happen but like the chap above says berto is better value.

I quite fancy the reverse. Ortiz is a very fast starter.

I got 1.77 with Boyles a couple of weeks ago.

I'd have thought Maidana was a decent shout to stop Morales.

Have you seen Morales lately? He's pudgy, slow, power's not there at the weight and all of the sublime finesse he had in his prime is gone as a result. It'll turn into a fight before the middle stages and that'll be all she wrote.

People give too much credence to the chop chop fight, if Maidana was able to put Ortiz, Kotelnik and Khan through absolute murder, 3 of the best boxers in a stacked division, then what bloody chance has little old erik got? He may well bank a few early rounds, but can you really see a marauding Maidana not slowing him down, and probably quite sharpish?

I heard Maidana didn't deserve the decision over a past it Chop Chop Corley a couple of fights ago. He lost to Kotenik who is no great boxer. We don't know how much Morales has left but he was dead at 130lbs, granted he didnt look very good at 135 but he has the size for 140lbs. I'd go with Maidana still but I don't think he's very good and if Morales can actually turn the clock back (doubt it) I have no doubt he'll win

He lost on points to two of them and failed to stop a bloke who was finished anywhere near world level.

I see. It's a bit of a pain in the arse to sign up to different sites. What's different about betfair?

I see a few of them offer free stake money to new customers. Is it worth just going with whoever is offering the most free stake money?

Not an expert on betfair as I don't have an account but my understanding is rather than betting against the bookie at the odds they set, you can agree odds with another punter and you bet between yourselves.

The best free stake is probably as good a way as any of picking a site (make sure you check the T&Cs of the free bet as they differ from site to site).

Other than that bet365 always tends to have a fairly comprehensive selection of fights and skybet and sporting odds often have lots of options (such as exact method of victory etc).

Just my opinion be interested to hear what others think.
