Yeah, I heard something about this around 5 months ago. I was excited but I didn't think it would materialize due to the fact that it wouldn't have a very broad appeal. I'm happy to see that it is being made, great cast so far.

I wonder who they will cast as Ray Leonard? Any thoughts?

They could get Ronald Hearns to play his father if Tommy Hearns is set to be in the movie, I understand it focuses mostly on the
'No Mas' fight, obviously Duran wants to clear his name once and for all.

Anyone know anything about the lead?

Pacino. Damn, that's exciting.

Pacino is shot. The last decade plus his idea of acting is screaming.

Jamie Foxx would be perfect as Leonard.

Robert Carlisle as Buchanan too.

That's probably fair, but call it sentimentality on my part. He's not much worse than present-day De Niro, who no one dares criticise.

I honestly haven't seen anything good from Bobby in years either. Al was great. But prime vs prime, much like in the Godfather, Deniro was his daddy.

I thought they both did well in Righteous Kill. Both guys can still act, but the quality of movies in general went down quite a bit in the 2000's and only barely seemed to pick up in the last couple of years as far as artistic value goes. Neither have had much work to suit them for most of this time.

Bernal is an excellent actor. He's to Latin American audiences what Pacino and De Niro were to English speaking ones in their heyday. He has great range and is built a bit like Duran as well, so visually he should look the part as well, he won't be a freakin Light Heavyweight Mickey Ward at least.

Edit: Agreed that movies suck these days. There must be a shortage of writers because all they do is murder classics like Arthur with pointless remakes.

I don't know what it is. I was pleasantly surprised by several movies in the last couple years however. 2002-2008 was like a barren wasteland of filmmaking.

I'd say it's a crapshoot for me. Pacino was excellent in Dog Day Afternoon and DeNiro equally so for different reasons in Taxi Driver, then you've got The Deer Hunter, Scarface, Scent of A Woman, Goodfellas, etc. And finally the two of them together on screen in Heat, where both put on great performances in the midst of shooting the shit out of Los Angeles.

Both of them were truly incredible actors, they're like Barrera and Morales, minus the hatred and trying to beat each other to death.

I know, I'm just saying that between the two of them you could make a pretty incredible marathon of the films they starred in.

No doubt about that, but if you put them side by side it would be surprising how much Bobby's resume dwarfs Al.

You're right, it could only be Ronald Hearns to play his father, as he's the spitting image Tommy.

Just a shame he can't fight like his father.

The late Pete Postlethwaite is the greatest actor I ever saw. Better than De Niro and Pacino, IMO.

deniro and pacino both stopped developing as actors.
rather than getting more subtle and reflected with age,
like anthony hopkins, they preferred to capitalize on
their massive screen presence. from a certain age on
this is just a fading thing and if you do still rely on it
too heavily you are ... fading.
