It's a rubbish situation. Victims often need more evidence to get a guilty plea as it will generally be one persons word against another and very few claims end in convictions. But like you say, guys names will be put out there and it proven not guilty, they will still carry around the tag of possible rapist.
It's not just rape though, the way the press ran riot with Chris Jefferies' name this year was nothing sort of disgraceful

I've no idea about anything in this case but to be honest it just seems to be one of those things that sportsmen seem to be caught up in if they like a heavy night out. Obviously i won't be mentioning any names but think back to how many footballers have been accused of this in the past couple of seasons. Just seems they're easy targets

You never know what goes on behind closed doors; and there're more women raped than make a complaint; due to the way they're treated at the police station and in any Court Case. Top sportsman are a magnet for women; for their popularity, lifestyle and their physicality. The women that flock to them are sometimes treated in a shocking manner.

I'm shocked at the apologists on here.
Do they not consider that the Crown Prosecution Service may have seen that there is a case to consider ?

Well, we have the lowest conviction rate in Europe at 6.5% so you could read that quite differently.
Mud sticks in the sense that once your name has been splashed all over the local and national papers as being on a rape charge, you are tarnished regardless of the outcome in court. That's why it should be illegal to name people before they have been found guilty.

Guilty pleas often rely on other victims coming forward, it ain't that simple

Yeah but in europe they can get found guilty and not even get punished for it, especially in italy (or is it spain?) i hear. So its a no win situation either way. Sportsmen and celebs are easy targets for wanna be fame seekers thats for sure but that doesnt mean to say theres not genuine rapes happening.
I'll wait to see what the outcome of a trial is before passing judgement either way.

As for Matthew Kelly, I remember him doing You Bet on ITV when I was a kid I use to love watching that along with Stars In their Eyes and I do agree I do felt he got hung out to dry by ITV

I remember reading in a paper a few years back about one of these cases getting to court in Spain and the judge dismissed it as it was 'impossible to do in the back of a Fiat Punto'

Spain is the last place you want a sex conviction.
I wrote about this is off-topic, but a lad we know from Worksop had a holiday romance during his two week holiday and was locked up from the age of 15 until he was 19 years old.
I worked with a man who was falsley accused of rape and it completely ruined him.
