Jhonny "Don't Call Me Johnny" Gonzalez finally wins a big fight, splattering former WBC bantam champ Hozumi Hasegawa in Tokyo.

Fourth round, big overhand right...

Really surprised by this Hasegawa is a class fighter I thought he'd pick Gonzalez apart. Great win for Jhonny though

gonzalez did look great since moving up to featherweight.

hasegawa a great talent, just lacking the hardness of, say, nishioka, who also fought on this world title triple header (and who destroyed gonzalez in mexico). hasegawa can perhaps go down in weight and pick another world title, becoming a triple world champ. he's a star in japan, can be great to watch and has an amazing engine, though his chin has to be in doubt now. he came back from the montiel KO where i thought he was weight drained. super bantam, it could be reasoned, is his best weight. perhaps he can get it right there.

hasegawa vs the WBA champ shimoda? WBA title keeps changing hands. vs stablemate and WBC champ nishioka, ensuring big fight for both men (after a defeat like this, this kind of bout becomes much more likely)?

hasegawa isn't a big star in japan....but surprised he has been taken out again. he has been one of my my favourites boxers over the last few years....maybe making bantam for so long has weakened his resistance.

Gonzalez looks the business at Featherweight - finally seeing his potential that he looked like he had in spades when he beat Montiel (so I think he has had a big win for today).

I expected a Gonzalez points win or a bit of a dodgy decision - but didn't expect that, seems to be punching hard at Feather.

Give it a couple more years and we might Donaire vs Gonzales!

ironically hasegawa is in exactly the same spot that gonzalez was in. gonz had been stopped by vazquez at 122, then by penalosa at 118 and then by nishioka up at 122...then he found the right weight 126 and has been looking superb since, as stujones says.

hasegawa should either try to challenge light hitting 126 champ chris john, or go down for a title at 122 which probably is his ideal weight (though he's never fought for a title at 122).

gonzalez won't be going to japan again; he'll have premier TV dates vs big names, perhaps gamboa or juanma lopez.

Boom, I told CP that Gonzalez would end him before 6.

yeah, i was leaning that way myself...... you know, Gonzalez's reach means hasegawa won't be able to get in range, etc etc etc

Nishioka is a tremendous finisher.

4th round isn't Hasegawa's favourite, lost on points over 4 rounds twice, and now kncoked out in the 4th twice.

Gonzalez was far to accurate for Hasegawa tonight, good finish. Gonzalez is an interesting boxer he's looked finished a couple of times in his career, but has come back well to win the Feather title.

You thought? I didn't think he had that much trouble slipping most of his shots. For me Hagesawa was controlling the distance and pace the best with his straight shots, and was starting to get success to the body. A lot of his 'jabs' were pawing and caught easily but allowed him to know where he was, and set up a few decent straight lefts. Gonzales probably landed the harder shots over the fight but not many of them. The KO was a one shot knockout, neither caught the other with anything too solid beforehand.

i thought hasegawa looked decent and controlled the fight, however just thought he needed to respect gonzales power just a little bit more and he may have stopped gonzales or won well on points.
good fight tho and hope to see both of them soon

i watched it a 2nd time with the sound off and thought that Gonzalez landed some sharp shots in the 1st that made Hasegawa have to think too long about getting inside of Gonzalez's long arms. After that Hasegawa looked ok, but Gonzalez kept the right hand landing , maybe without the power. But he made up with that in the 4th.

Did you watch the Takahiro Ao v Gutierrez fight?

Good little battle, but Takahiro Ao isn't going to have a long reign if he keeps fighting like that. took too many shots

Downloaded the Ao fight mate, and it was Japanese commentary for the main event. Turned it down as Japanese crowds only get loud when their guys lands or looks like landing.

Interesting that people are happy to call this a straight KO when it looked almost an exact replay of the Lewis/McCall stoppage, which a lot of people say wasn't justified?

I've no problem with the stoppage here, legs gave out a definite wobble and sideways step.

Yah, well, I've never had a problem with the McCall-Lewis I KO.

You can't control your legs = out the fight. Which is kinda why I don't like the three-knockdown rule.

watched it again, and it jus seemed to me that gonzales punched to straight for hasegawa and when he was just adjusting to that he got caught witha looping right hand ironically.
burgos was a good preparation for this fight as gonzales is a more experienced burgos.
all great fighters wanna see more.
