Anyone you've got time for who you feel the general consensus is against is valid, here (but if someone says they are actually a, "fan," of Floyd Mayweather or Jim Grey, I will shoot them). Fighters, promoters, officials, anyone associated with our (once) fine sport.
My list of the (under-appreciated) damned...
Teddy Atlas
Jim Lampley
Larry Merchant
Bob Sheridan
Rock Newman
Max Kellerman
Juan Diaz
Lou Duva
Steve Smoger
Oscar De La Hoya
Jay Nady
Pernell Whitaker

Pernell Whitaker
Can't think of too many. If the list was beloved fighters that I don't like, that would take a while.

Some people got put off by the Tito will destroy Roy jones type of banter. But he always scores high in a favorite fighter thread on forums. I think it's more that he gets overrated by his minions and people call that out as opposed to genuine dislike. He is one of the more popular boxers I've seen in the 35 years I've been watching the sport.
But if he applies, add him to my list too.

Only a true great in the making could beat immortals like Tua and Byrd.

A great would beat Tua, but only a semi-god would draw him.

Lennox Lewis never put that perfecta together.

I liked Cosell. He did not give great in-depth analyis, but did other things well. He usually showed a lot of enthusiasm for the fights that he called. He also was very good at the post-fight interview.
I also like Larry Merchant. I don't think his boxing knowledge or interview skills are impressive. However, he adds comic relief, without trying to. His Analogies to Lincoln's cabinet, The Knights of the Round Table, the Spanish Armada, etc. cracked me up.

You forgot Muhammad ali and Leonard. The two most hated fighters in history.

GI, just out of curiosity - what does Max Kellerman bring to the table that makes you a fan? The guy is a stuck up, self centered twat in my opinion.

I like Max too. Why? He is a true fan of the sport above being a "journalist". He has some out there opinions and so do the rest of us. I'm not saying he is great. But he is better than "Definitely", " I knew it all along" or " May God be with you".

Yes.
To answer Deno, I guess what attracts me to Max is his honest, true enthusiasm for the sport, & his efforts (though sometimes forced) to bring a historical element to modern fights,by way of comparisons & such.It isn'talways done well, but it's something new, & you can see in it his genuine love for the game. He also endeavours to be less of a yes man for the company, in the tradition of Larry Merchant. That isn't easy for anyone to do nowadays, & few will try as Max does.
Of course, I positively cheer his open disdain for the sanctioning bodies (someone has to say it publicly) & his love for all things Sweet Pea don't exactly hurt his standing in my eyes, either
