over on eastside there is a thread about katsidis and i gotta say i agree with the bulk of what was being said.
i love katsidis, he's my favorite active aussie fighter, and im sure evrybody else here thinks likewise.
but, its time mick, the fans and most of all his managment stop overmatching him. he's taken more punishment in his past two fights than most guys take in 10. it shpould be clear now that mick is a class below the top guys. its time he was matched better, he is not going to beat the marquez's, guerreo's amd soto's of the world. the sooner people stop matching him on a punchers chance the better. he needs to fight guys in his own level, there is no shame in that. but i have a feeling golden boy will continue to throw him in to these fights and he will continue to take savage beatings. and im sure mick, with his huge heart will continue to take the fights. im serious when i say if he takes another beating like that he could do some real damage, the last thing boxing needs is another fatality.

In my honest opinion i think Mick needs to work with another trainer. He gets no good advice in the corner between rounds, and goes into these fights without any sort of real gameplan.

It seems to me Mick is being used up to make as much money as possible, and i really wonder if his best interests are being looked after.

i think at this stage of his career a new trainer would be pretty pointless. But yeah some of the advice he gets is strange. I dont think golden boy has his interests at heart. He has a name in the states now as a tough guy so the problem is he will make shitloads more money with them but continue to take horrible beatings

I'd hate to see him a dribbling mess in years to come, or worse. Retire now. A new trainer won't do a single thing for the way he fights. He's been doing it that way for years now

Mick doesn't really listen to his corner, never has & never will. He's the boss & not Brendon & does things his way in & out of the ring.

Im sure a new trainer would help, Maybe he would at least go in with a gameplan. Mick stood at range against a guy with fast hands and a good jab. Even a blind man could see he needed to shorten the distance and get right on Guerero's chest. He needed to be attacking the body and slowing down his opponent.

Also Anton that is completley wrong, Whenever his corner gave him advice he would come out and try it the next round. Its just that they didnt give him fornicate all.

At what stage of his career do you recommend he change trainers? He has stagnated here with this one, he is only 30 and has been fighting one the big stage for about three years. Surely you can see Ben K is right and that a change of trainers now, perhaps to a gym like Wild Card or Kronk with there big fight experience, world class sparring and good management would do him wonders, perhaps it is long over due.

Or perhaps you are suggesting he is too old to be taught new technique, you can't teach an old dog new tricks hey?! How old was Pacquiao when he jumped ship? Hardly successful that. How about Danny Green? Left Fenech when he was what? 31-32? Retired two of Australia's best light heavies then took the WBA world title from the champion, retiring him as well. fornicate all success there, and I recall green fought a bit like Katsidis when he was with Fenech.

I could dig up names for comparison all night if I was that way inclined. Funny, I don't see any of you bleeding hearts call for the retirement of some of the war horse Asians or Argentinians, such as Ariel Gerardo Aparicio ( http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... &cat=boxer ) I've seen this tough as nails warrior fight live and he makes Katsidis' defense look like Pretty Boy Floyd's.

it dosent always work like that. Roger mayweather couldnt change ricky hatton. Green beating delise, Murdoch and drews has nothing to do with anything as either of them are close to the level of the guys katsidis has been in with. All im saying is that katsidis needs a good break and a step down in competition

Roger Mayweathr never trained Hatton did he?

So who did Hatton lose to? Mayweather and Pacquaio? I think there are reasons other than for the trainer for those losses. Ricky could have taken a gun into the ring with that pair and still lost.

i wont argue there i just dont think its a good comparison. Green turned pro quite late, and katsidis has already taken for more punishment than green. Who knows, he might not be the same fighter anymore

green has never fought the calibre of fighters katsidis has, leave jones out of it, he was nowhere near his top, katsidis,s opponents are better fighters than him at the moment,he is fighting at the top of tree, there is no disgrace in getting beaten by the fighters he has fought,fighting lessor opponents could give him a few wins, but he has to improve his defence along the way, i think his aggression will win him more than he will lose,if he was getting beaten by mugs i would be concerned,a change of trainers is no good if he doesn,t take it in the ring with him, all the best

Let's hope him and John Murray get put in together, it's a guarenteed barnstormer

Katsidis might not have that third coming, easily his worst beating, any other talk is pure bollox.....that was a 1 side beating...Katsidis to move up, and leave behind Toowoomba.

he needs a year off with a new trainer if he stands a chance, him not listening to his corner could have a lot to do with Brendon telling him "your doing good Michael, keep it up, you can beat him, just remember to have fun, winning and having a strategy is overrated".

Its time to part way with Brendon Smith something have been saying since the Joel Casamayor fight, its not to late for him

woud be great to see Katsidis V Zappavigna, have to lean to Katsidis, but still be a good old Aussie war.

Zappa was interviewed on the Fox fights last night and seems keen.

Having heard Troy Waters.....this is the fear i have for Katsidis. Troy had his wars in the ring(AND i would assume lots of sparring with his bigger brothers) but katsidis has been in with similar calibre (if not better)opposition but more times and way more rounds. One has to be concerned.
He is so good to watch and is a credit to himself and Oz boxing. Certainly think he needs a few fights at his level before he tries to go for the top notch guys. In reality he may not win- he simply isnt in that class but geeez if he is going to continue(which i have no doubt he will) he cannot continue what he has been doing.
As for a new trainer- not sure this will help. Have said post Casamoyar that i think he should get a new team.BUT i think his brawling instinct is just that-instinct. Its him.You cannot change instinct

A good example of a new trainer tweaking the style of a brawler and prolonging his career would be what Buddy McGirt did with Arturo Gatti.
