Kevin McBride retired after losing to Adamek, he had a good career. Of course the win over the faded Tyson was his defining moment, if you can call it that. McBride recalls some details from that big night in this interview. i was shocked to see Tyson lose to McBride who was pretty mediocre but he really rose to the occasion and used his bulk to break the will of Iron Mike. It was a respectable performance by McBride, one that he will always cherish. He finished a living legend, when he was expected to be a sacrificial lamb.

Tyson should not have been in the ring. He hated boxing, was out of shape and lived atrociously outside the ring. McBride upped his game, as you would expect fighting a faded icon, but it was more a case of Tyson losing than the Clones Colossus winning. He needed a quick payday and was unprepared for a tough fight.

Tyson talked about not wanting to fight already in the late 1980s, repeated it in prison interviews, and later more and more often. Was Tyson different with Lewis?

Adamek sort of reminded me of Stanley Ketchel, when he was fighting McBride.

All anyone needs to know about that fight is in the post fight interview with Mike. He said he didn’t wanna fight anymore. Didn’t wanna do this. If I recall correctly. When that happens, the last thing you wanna do is climb those steps. That was a shell of the former champ.

Roberto Duran writes in his book that he was hired to help train Tyson
for his fight with Mc Bride,(living at the Porshe estate in California) but when he got there he said Tyson was

I read that book. That's not in there.

Curious what Duran can provide Tyson. I’ve seen Duran in the gym. Watched him get tuned up sparring with Juan Nazario. He probably wasn’t gonna jump in the ring with Mike. I don’t think his English was all that great either. Being around him a couple hours or so, I didn’t get the sense he did much coaching. Didn’t seem really to be a patient sort of fellow. Or the type to impart words of encouragement. That was 1988 though.
