Almost all of Bruno's early fights were there or wembley.

just a random look at one Bruno bill gives you a sobering reality check on how good the scene was during the golden age.

look at this bill

c 1982
Cornelius Boza Edwards
Frank Bruno
Mark Kaylor
Jimmy Cable
Nicky Wilshire :bag:

Awesome! That atmospheric old hall adds something to a fight. It's British as hell, not like the new stadiums that could be built anywhere in the world. Smacks of history and tradition and I'll stop now before I get a tear in my eye

:TU: Took the missus there for the Xmas carols this year, amazing acoustics as you would expect. Was in the upper tier and you feel as though you are on top of things ( ) - can't wait to see a big fight there. Think the capacity must be over 5K?

Thank god for that the bloody Knightsbridge residents thinking they call the shots because they are rich.

What is most galling is that boxing has been taking place there for the best part of 100 years! Same with Wimbledon FC and the residents association near Plough Lane - the sports grounds and events were taking place well before most of these people moved to the area.

very expensive to hire!!!
last time I filmed there I think was Spencer Olivers last fight
best atmosphere was Benn v Logan

Bet it's cheaper than Wembley Arena.

They've also had Sumo in there :D

I went once and saw Eubank blow apart Renaldo Dos Santos with the first right hand he landed. And a comebacking Jim MacDonald get stretchered out after walking onto a monstrous left hook from Kenny Vice.

Best news of the week... the old place has a special atmosphere, a welcome touch of class and history... I remember being there for Boxing News after a long meal with Harry Mullan, Tim Mo and Ron Olver in the late 70s... maybe a Magri or a Sibson fight... great days.

Er, OK pedant... think it was John L Gardner & Billy Aird... which is not high on the list of memories... oh, and Tony Sibson had just come back from sleeping on the beach in Benidorm and was upset by Eddie Smith... Charlie Magri butchered an inept Italian... that do?
But the meal was at Monte Bello's and I had the parma ham, the lamb steak with rosemary and a Barolo...OK?!
