WHat was johhny nelsons ring entrance music?

Sorry lads just trying to settle an argument with some fools in this barber shop.....a bloke here swears for most his early fights johhny nelson came into the ring to the song "Body Talk" by Imagination.....(heres a link) and that he wore similar attire in the ring, almost like a skirt, hector camacho type thing?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ednOJ5e ... re=related

Its slightly before my time is it true? One thing is for sure Johhny was a formidable Cruiserweight champ and if he was fighting today he would be a top HW contender with his speed. Its a shame he campaigned at HW in such a strong early 90's HW division

He wouldn't have been a factor in any era in the heavyweight division, he just didn't have the nuts, witness his efforts vs Akinwande and Sanders.

Nelson had nuts. Anyman who loses his first 3 fights than carries on.....any guy who was "humiliated" in his home city like nelson was against deleon even though he drew with the man a 3 time world champ at 20 years old.....nelson had loads of yorkshire hard men coming up to him to challenge him to a fight and none of them could touch him before he let them cut their losses unhurt.......he went on the road to fight HW's like adilson rodrigues in their backyard and got robbed.....the man was a class act who never gave up.

Getting back to the question at hand,I just watched the video to bodytalk between 1;45 and 1:50 and nelson looks just like the singer Im guessing he did use this song as ring entrance music as i remember him wearing clothes like these guys in the ring

I seem to remember herol bomber graham having the same look and faux campness and naseem hamed dressed like these guys too with all that belly dancing and the gold sequinned skirts just like these guys.......im sure its a Sheffield thing .

He used to go to Clouds in Doncaster, so it's a distinct possibility.

I've a documentary about the DeLeon fight but it doesn't have the entrances.

Is this Johnny Nelson, former European and world champion, who sparred the best around and never lost his world title in the ring? The only fighter who came close to toppling him during his 6 year world title reign was G Jones, and he tested positive for steriods(and has been a success since that fight).

To me, Johnny is a huge success story, and a man of real character. How many lose 8 of their 10 amateur fights, their first 3 as a pro and then go on to dominate V Jirov in sparring amongst others, and win worthy belts at the top end of boxing, and retire after a lengthy undefeated run? Not many, I'd wager.

In fact, being very nervous and still getting in the ring indicates the very opposite of yellow to me.A brave and talented man is Johnny.

You seem a little bitter about Sheffield boxers. Was this started by Nelson stopping Carl Thompson ? Naz sparking Brodie in the amateurs ? Your predictions that Moore would beat Rhodes and Jennings would beat Brook ?

Is it any wonder that Hatton steered clear of Witter ?

Was merely jesting pal, he was a top boxer in the end, but you can't deny (and he hasn't himself) he let himself down on several occasions (notably Waring) before coming good

I'm bitter about Sheffield boxers?! I love Sheffield, went to uni in Yorkshire. Great place

I like Jennings and wanted him to beat Brook. It was unconvincing and I'd like to see a rematch.

And Moore is someone I've met on many occasions and respect a lot. Wanted him to beat Rhodes and he didn't. Was a shame, but I gave Rhodes his props. In fact I did it to his face when we met outside the Echo Arena on the night of the Smith v Quigley fight.

I do find it amusing how Sheffield fans are so blinkered, but that's to be expected.

PS Naz is one of my boxing heroes, if you carry on looking through my past posts you'll discover that. And Hatton would have walked through Witter at any point in his career. Don't flog that horse mate, it bolted years ago. Ta

PPS Don't get so uptight when someone goes against the Sheffield grain and backs someone else. It's not a big issue, just relax.

I'm not a Manchester lad, I'm from North Wales and neutral.

Here's hoping Brook gets some good tests with Matchroom in 2011 and beyond. He needs to step up if he's going to win titles.

Johnny came out to The Entertainer for the De Leon fight and I seem to remember him wearing a white satin sleeveless tail jacket.

His book Hard Road to Glory is down to £4 on Amazon and it's a great read. A truly inspirational story.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hard-Road-Glory ... ap_title_0

There is a short chapter in it about him being traumatised as youngster when a handy man shagged his dog. I've only met Johnny once, and all the time I was talking to him, I was fighting the urge to bring up this incident.

that settles it! i just won 50 quid.

nelson was one hell of a champion imo the best cruiser p4p in the world. its just defending that wbo title was so lucrative he didnt need to chase the other belts.

i just think nelson circa 2003 would have eaten the cruiser haye for breakfast
