Anyone else heard anything about this?

I would rather he challenged Wright for the English title. This isn't really much of a step up from Lomax, although it is a decent fight.

It would have to be a ridiculous offer and even then I'm dubious that Theophane takes the fight. Fair play to him as he's developed his career in admirable fashion, but it certainly hasn't been by fighting all comers. I think Frankie is ready for him now, hope he get's the chance...

I'm assuming if Frankie is not saying its not Mutley then perhaps it is. Gavin has to do the domestic scene I guess the same as everyone but he is already at Euro level for me.

Some think Theophane gives him problems, can't see that in a million years to be honest, one sided fight as far as I'm concerned.

If his skin and hands hold up, there is no way this guy don't win a world crown but I do have concerns for injuries etc.

Hopefully whatever this fight is in May will get him upto the mandatory and then if Theophane don't want it, he can take the vacant title by Christmas and hopefully a Euro shot by April 2012 - couple of defences during 2012 and then crack on in 2013.

Frankie said an announcement should be coming shortly, who ever it is though it has to eb a step up in class which i think it will be. Getting Frankie rady for a title fight in next 2 or 3 fights.

Good promoting to get former British champion, but he won the title debateably and never retained it and his best days are also behind him. To me this isn't a step up at all for Gavin

x2. This is a cynical piece of match-making that is simply looking to capitalise on the inter-Brum rivalry to shift tickets. My concern is that given both fighters have history of being clearly linked to football clubs this has got 'rucks in the stands' written all over it

If the deal is done Mutley has had decent notice, makes it a world of difference from the Lomax fight

Exactly, i don't think i'd attend this event

Beings as there was talk of Gavin v Theopane, at one stage. Fair enough that Theopane didn't want the fight, but in terms of finding Frankie an alternative opponent, if this is the best they can come up with, then its not great. No matter how they try and promote it, by saying Mutley is the former British Champion blah, blah, blah. It won't wash

People label Frankies fans but it's not always them like is made out, Frankies mob have come to Liverpool and all enjoyed themselves and caused no trouble at all, to attach trouble to Frankies fans name is not fair for me...

Mutley was a tremendous force about 5 years ago or so.

But he was absolutely dead at the 140lb weight against Lynes. At 147lb he'd possibly make it competitive somewhat.

Unfortunately, there are some from the football casual side that follow him and they do cause a fair bit of trouble, especially when in Birmingham. The carnage at the Mag 7 stands out and there was also trouble on the Olympic debuts in Birmingham on the Harrison Rogan undercard.

It's not a nice thing to have attached but there are clearly some who want to cause trouble. We've had a thread on it elsewhere but there seems to be a lot more trouble at the boxing now. In the last year i've seen full on fights in the crowd at the Olympia in London, Skydome in Cov, Wembley & NEC in Brum (not all involved Birmingham fans btw, Leicester, Coventry, Welsh, Mancs & Scousers were all involved). These weren't just the odd punch up either.

Surely SN have the financial clout to get either Theophane or Steve Williams to face Gavin. Both would be excellent fights. They are fighters with ambition and determination and good skills. In other words several levels up from anything Gavin has faced so far and better than anything that has been suggested too.

No offence to Steve Williams who I like and who I know posts here, but I don't think you can say he is levels up from someone like McDonagh. A different stage of their careers perhaps, but I dont think the McDonagh that beat Woodhouse and fought Gavin was 'levels below' Williams.

If people can't come to a boxing match and control there selves there's something really wrong. In Europe people have a bit of banter but that's it, in england a minority want to kick the shit out of each other.

There were some guys at the khan fight last year trying to shoot some big meathead with there fingers, funniest thing I have ever sore when the guy stood up!!

This card still looks a little weak for a PPV. Where there is no single headliner (a la Haye or (up until saturday) Khan), the policy was for a stacked card in the image of a Magnificent 7. This needs at least 2 more fights that are no more than 60-40 in favour of the home fighter (eg, Gavin-Mutley is probably 95-5 in favour of Gavin).

At the moment Cleverly v Braehmer, Degale v Groves and Gavin v Mutley is not worth £15. And as soon as we start accepting that it is PPV worthy then Clev, Degale and, shortly after, Gavin will be PPV only in their own right.

A British title fight with two novice fighters is worth paying for? It's a good fight but not ppv worthy. How are they going to build a fanbase to get the really big ppv's down the line too?
