For me, it was Ricardo Mayorga chinning Vernon Forrest in three rounds early in the year. It was an incomprehensible defeat. Forrest had looked so good in twice outpointing Shane Mosley, and then this beer-swilling Nicarguan just blows him away. Amazing.
In this country, Wayne Alexander's eighth round defeat at the hands of Delroy Mellis last month was another shocker. Mellis had lost six in a row going into the fight. But he was given plenty of notice this time, and it showed.

Arthur getting blasted out by gomez was easily the most satisfying fight I have ever sat through. I was loving every moment of Arthur getting pummeled by Gomez to be honest.

I think Klit-Lewis was good too. it was real exciting & I thought lewis was going to go in the second.

There have been many memroable moments....

From Iron Mike returning with a BANG! in January, to Corrie Sanders absolutely butchering 'The Next Big Thing' Wladimir Klitschko.
Roy Jones Jr upsetting the odds by moving up to Heavyweight, schooled Ruiz and won the WBA Belt, then returning ot beat Tarver at Light Heavy!

Also seeing Arrogant Alex Arthur get beaten up was very satisfying

Lewis-Klitschko was awesome, watching two juggernauts collide and knowing either could fold at any minute! And also the Brodie-Chi after fight brings back memories, Steve Lillis of The Daily Sport yelling "Corrupt!" at Jose Sulaiman :P

I think the thing that springs to my mind is shocks as in the Hatton v Smith when Darkie shoved the ref...Oakey failing drug test,and Elcock getting KO'd in 1 round all shocking

Probably Lewis-Klitschko is the fight I will remember from 2003 in 5/10 years time.

If I think back over the year I guess Calzaghe-Mitchell was a cracker, made me jump up off my sofa (which is rare), Harrison-Mculloch was a big event, Brodie-Chi a thriller and Hatton-Tackie a nice way to round off the year.

On the world stage the DLH-Mosely and Jones-Tarver fights left me very dissapointed with the scoring, following on from Morales-Barerra 2 last year that's now 3 big big fights that have left me screaming 'bollocks' at the TV from my sofa (not so rare it must be said).

The both Knock downs of the frietas fight in round 11 where the same really, just barios falling down the way he did made it better.

All those big upsets made 2003 a memorable boxing year. Starting early with the Mayorga shocker and ending, as someone pointed out, with another Mayorga upset.
Manny Pac trouncing Barrera, Sanders big win in Germany, Arthur being humbled in his big homecoming.
Roy Jones scoring his historic win at heavyweight, then James Toney coming back from obilvion and back into the P4P lists after a 10 year absence ( I think )
I loved the Calzaghe fight with Mitchell too - down for the first time in his career, he comes back to blast the American in the same round. Fantastic win, shame he didn't get another fight in.

Yes, someone did mention it - the fact that world class boxing is shown on a regular (if delayed) basis again.

2003 was nearly as reminiscent of the late 80's and 90's where everyone could watch the likes of Leonard, Hagler, Hearns, Chavez and Tyson regularly.

Without doubt -easiest question ever.

Corrie Sanders smashing to bits the Giant Bosch and ruining the nights, years, lives of:

1. Hundreds of Yank, White internet dorks telling me he was the second coming of Joe Louis.

2. Any Huns intending to claim him as a naturalised Kraut and hence the first "proper" champ since Schmelling.

3. Himself - the word is out.

Also enjoyed MannyPac FLAYING Barrerra - certainly didn't see it coming, but deep down suspected that his (MAB's) stock had remained a little Too high for too long - Tapia, Kelley? Lets be honest they weren't even close to competetive and were never going to be - poor preparation for ManyyPac IMO.

Manny Pacquaio kicking the doo-doo out of Barrera was the biggest shocker for me....

Lewis v Klitchsko gave me the most butterflies....

DLH v Mosley II was the biggest let down....

Watching Toney dissect Holyfield like a kid picking legs of a spider...awesome display.

Yes - Lewis should retire and get into training pronto.

If he can turn Sanders into a World beater over one phone call, imagine what he could do for real!

I could be wrong but I think James meant that someone informed him of the Sanders/Klitschko result over the phone.
