Fallen Scottish star Alex Arthur has threatened to quit the ring if he doesn't win a world title next year. The former British super featherweight champion lost his Lonsdale belt to Michael Gomez in October and says he will "consider chucking it" if he doesn't win world honours in 2004.
The 25-year-old told The Scotsman newspaper: "I have never been as hungry to succeed. That had all disappeared before Gomez. It sounds strange, but things had been going too well and I was losing it. I now realise where I went wrong and I don't just mean by fighting when I was ill."
Arthur ought to concentrate on improving his defence rather than looking ahead to major honours. It's almost as if he feels he can eradicate the flaws he shopwed in the Gomez fight by simply winning a 'world' title. But those flaws will always be there - and will find him out again - if he doesn't face them now.

HOPE HES NOT AFTER A MAJOR TITLE

Yeah I doubt even Sports Network can get him a major world title fight in a year (note: that was supposed to be a compliment). It is possible that Arthur is muling over his future here. The word retirement came into that speech, its never a good sign (even if the rest of the sentence was positive).

I actually would have tipped Arthur to beat the former WBC champion Sirramongong (spelling?). That was untill I saw Gomez expose him. There is no way Arthur can take the 4 major champions I'm afraid. Unless Gavin Rees gets an easy WBO oportunity. Then Arthur has some chance.
