Simpson Was Robbed.....Again!

I feel sorry for this man. Time & time again he puts leaves everything in the ring and gives it all his heart and yet they continue to rob him.

Tonight it was a good competitive scrap and credit to Smith for his toughness. But John WON that fight. Besides round 1 2 3, & 10 I gave all to Simpson.

He outfought and outworked Smith for the majority of the fight and some rounds Smith would just jump into clinches.

I also thought he beat Smith the first time aswell pretty clearly. It's damn sad, John should be now getting ready for a IBF title shot in the summer, but instead will most likely retire or continue to fight on the British scene.

Due to horrible scoring. 118-112, how can this be justified?

Simpson should have no more than 3 losses on his record. In my mind he is the best in Britian. And tonight should of walked away with the British title still around his waist.

I felt sorry for him in the postfight. I just find it hard to belive how Smith walked away with the W again, i thought he would of been fairly lucky to get a draw in this fight and the first fight..

John Simpson should have left tonight with a W on his record. Damn wrong!

:x

I thought Simpson won both fights as well. What surprises me is that is seems more people had Smith winning the second fight than the first; I thought Simpson won the fight tonight by a wider margin than I had him winning the original encounter. I don't agree that it was a robbery though. It was a very tight contest that could have fairly gone either way (although it seems super close fights go to the house fighter about 95% of the time). The 118-112 card of O'Conner is absolutely terrible, but I don't think this should be looked at as a controversial decision overall.

If you check the round by round thread on here you will see that's not the case.

Once again Terry O'Conner makes a shambles of a great fight! Simpson won that fight handily for me, so gutted for him. What does he have to do to get a decision?

To be honest John was never gonna get a points win down there regardless :(

When pretty much everyone bar Terry O'Connor thinks a fight is close, it is, no matter which way the verdict goes, by definition not a robbery. You may think the wrong man won but thats not the same thing

Bar the 118-112 card, I though the result was fair. Smith had much more of the fight than this thread suggests and I personnally had Smith by 2 rounds. All the Sky team had it by at least 1 round as well. There were too many close rounds where Simpson just didn't do enough work to win outright and apart from the 8th he never really had Smith in trouble.

A very close fight all the same and could have gone either way on the night. Cannot people just say well done to Stephen Smith????

You have hit the nail on the head Danny, close fight, thought Simpson by two rounds for me but O'Connors card is scandalous, if we can pull IJL for the prizefighter fiasco surely this needs sorting.
more importently this was for our country''s premier title/belt, there is no way on earth anyone who can judge that fight and come up with 118-112.

By my reckoning thats 8 rounds to Smith outright - 2 rounds to Simpson and 2 drawn rounds.

Its not happening, it did not happen, so how was that scored produced.

This game gives us wonderful moments but that scorecard has taken the gloss of a super little fight because we are all crying robbery, it was so close and would have started many a boxing
debate.

I feel sorry for Simpson as he always seems to be at the wrong end of decisions, and I had him nicking this. However to say this was a robbery is ridiculous, it was a really close fight that could have gone either way.

I was there last night and it was a real tough one to call. A lot of people ringside were saying a draw would have been a fair result and I tend to agree. 118-112 it never was, but in a fight where the rounds are very close, but you prefer the work of Swifty, then its easy to see where you could come up with that score. I wouldn't argue either way, but a 3rd fight would be great for the fans (don't know about the two lads though!!) :TU:

By the way, lets try and not let the scoring overshadow the fight itself, which was a great little battle. :TU:

i had it a draw but thought that Swiftys fast start and the fact he came on again late in the fight when it was nip and tuck i thought he could nick it, but the 118-112 was disgraceful scoring.

Two lads unbelievably well matched, Swifty needs to use his boxing more as John definitely made it into a fight that suited him, and it's Ste's relative inexperience that's keeping it close - iMHO Swifty has more potential than John in the long run, but right now, they're a great match - i'd love to see number 3.

So if you'd been in Simpson's shoes and given 4/12 rounds by Big Terry, you wouldn't have argued either way and would've thought it easy to see how he'd come up with that score? You've changed. :D
Listen Macho, if it was me then i'd feel exactly the same as John, which i would imagine is very frustrated at the fact that he's lost his British title in a fight he felt he won. He wasn't even given 4 rounds either, he was given 2 and 2 even!! As I said above where i've highlighted, 118-112 it never was, but it was a close fight that IMO could have gone either way. :TU:

Good fight, close fight.

Records are for DJs - if you thought someone won yet the judges didn't, that's allowed you know!

Last nights fight was equally as close as the first one, both fights could've gone either way, so I can fully understand Johns frustration and not getting either nod.

Johns a tough game boy though, so he'll no doubt be back soon giving someone else nightmares. A shot at Sofiane Takoucht's Euro title would be ideal.

Unlucky John, keep ya pecker up

I thought Simpson won by four rounds. Smith had a good first round but no way was it 10-8. Another robbery, I knew it was coming by Richies biased commentary.

If the so called Swifty hadn't been holding and wrestling for 80% of the fight Simpson would have knocked him out.

I don't think it was a great fight due to smiths hit and hold tactics, you could see John wanted to go toe to toe but was getting smothered throughout the fight. The ref was terrible, very biased and should have docked a couple of points from Smith for holding and turning his back.

All in all another disgusting decision. Bad luck John, all the best for the future whatever it holds.

Having it watched it today, it was not a robbery - I didn't score the fight but it really could have gone either way. Jon is well overdue a bit of the rub of the green - the only time he has got that was in the 2nd Morris fight. Out of his now 8 defeats, he has been unlucky in at least 5 - robbed terribly in one of these (Dazzo Williams fight). I've never seen his early career defeat - so it might even be 6. The only fights that I have seen with Simpson that he can have no complaints about was the first Morris fight and the Foster Jnr fight.

Maybe a draw might have been the best verdict, because these two are just so hard to seperate. A massive credit to both boxers in the interview, whilst Smith didn't use the hand injury as an excuse last time - plenty of his fans did. I'm glad his hand seems to have held up.

I hope Simpson gets the rub of the green in securing title opportunities at Feather or Super Feather. I hope the EBU title chance can still happen, although I guess now Smith will take his place.

Smith said he wqants to defend the British a few times, so hopefully John will get the Euro shot

These are two very classy fighters out of the ring, I hope the BBBoC reward them for their dignity and class when it comes to the next awards. Sportsmanship award or something. Crikey, make up an award especially for it - we need too see more of this. Great role models.

I tip my hat to you both!
