Happy Birthday, Jaclem

You've cheered me up no end as i am going to be 40 on 21st of May. So I'll be half the man you are...

Come on now, share some of your observations of following the sport for so long.

Having lived through a lot of great years for boxing, what do you feel is the most common misconception held by the younger generations?

Very technically advanced if you are using the internet at 80!

Happy 80th birthday my friend, Jaclem. When the greats Sugar Ray Robinson and Kid Gavilan fought, you was 18 years old? Wow.

stop with responses.....jaclem is being overwhelmed by the attention and will require additional nap times as a result

Well highly exciting and riveting contributions (such as mine for example) can both excite and exhaust those who are unprepared....lol.

Seriously, have the happiest birthday experience imaginable! Every additional year we survive should remind us all just how precious life and living is!

...just a few responses...i'll get to more later

bllox....hey sherlock....ypur mempry is as good as mine when it comes to forum names....geez...that one is from a forum that no longer exists!! have you been stalking me?

Ezzard...it depends on how young...many think of ali and frazier as pioneers and they started the sport...for those even younger...they may think pbf started it all..

brockton boy...my old/young buddy...good to see you back....and keepin the marciano flame alive

alex...i remember listening to louis/schmeling on the radio...second fight...and seeing the films of both one and two at the neighborhood theatre....just a kid but i knew they were something special, and as the years have gone by i realize how big they were......as an adult i think ali/frazier I is the biggest hype i've ever seen...pictures on the cover of life magazine...one taken by frank sinatra...mailer writing a whole book!!! i think the louis/schmeling one will be longer written about as boxing history continues to be written because of its political and international aspect.

again, t hanks to all and i'll get to more...

...buzzy...yeah, i think we know more than many..especially of the young ones (not that you're as old as i am!! no way near)...just what your post implies...

wow. i am 44, my earliest boxing related memory is my
father getting up in the middle of the night to watch ali
versus frazier ... probably the thrilla.

but having someone here who saw pretty much all of modern
boxing ... unbelievable. but then again all these things are
finally not that long ago.

big grats. most remarkable to me is your web lingo ... you
are not an old man, Sir.

Thanks for the reply.

A couple more if you don't mind...

I remember you posting once that you met Lenny Bruce and he tried out some material on you. What was he like as a person?

You were lucky enough to have lived through a golden age... Joe Louis, Ezzard Charles, Ray Robinson, Willie Pep, Sandy Saddler... Who do you rate from more recent times? Ali? Tyson? Duran? etc...
