This thread is laughable. Lennox in his prime was leagues above all the current heavies.

How about reserve judgment until Haye has had a chance to prove himself at heavy. So far he has been building up his retirement fund, and who can blame him, he wont have got a fortune from his cruiser days and boxing is his trade.

If he beats Wlad and then takes on Vit, we can then compare.

First I need to know if we're talking about today's Lennox Lewis, or a prime Lewis. ;;-)

This would be like Haye vs Harrison but the other way around Haye would be terrified to take a forward step Lewis to big to strong to clever for him It would be Man vs Boy. I cant believe any one could ask this question.

Lewis inside a round.

As for ''give Haye a chance to prove himself at heavy''

He's had three years to do that, and took the scenic route :OhYes:

This thread reminds me of the 'Wladimir Klitschko vs Prime George Foreman' thread that some berk made on the eastside current scene a few years ago.

I think that we forget how bloody good Lewis was. The worst possible Lewis -- old, and in appallingly bad shape -- took a man who dominates the current division, and who never looks like losing, into an all action, life or death brawl, and tore half his face off. And at a time when that man was younger and closer to his prime than he is now.

I think that we also forget that Lewis emerged as the dominant champion from the best heavyweight era since the early-to-mid-seventies. I really believe that. Bowe, Holyfield, and Lewis led the way, but a still functioning Tyson, Ruddock, a young Briggs, Morrison, Moorer, Golotta, McCall, young Tua, and Bruno were all several levels better than anyone the Klitschkos have faced in the last few years; at least as good as, but probably better than, Haye, and miles better than anyone below that.

And bar Bowe, who avoided Lewis like he had leprosy, and Moorer, Lewis beat them all. And well. The only men he ever lost to, he beat decisively in the returns. On both occasions he lost, one got the clear impression it was due to under-preparation. When he was fit and focused -- especially after switching to Manny Stewart -- he looked near unbeatable.

He was massive, but, unlike many of the giants today, very athletic. He had a good jab (although it wasn't as great as Holmes's, as it could be dominated at times), a terrific left hook, and an absolute monster of a right. He was fast, skillful, had a good chin (sorry, but he did; a chin needn't be utterly impenetrable to be good, and against Briggs and Klitschko, he proved it was solid); he could destroy people with relentless attacking, knock them clean out with a single punch or comprehensively outbox them over 12 one-sided rounds.

Yes, Lewis was terrific. It's harder to think of a single thing Haye does better than Lewis. I'm not sure he's as fit, I don't think he hits as hard, his chin is worse, he doesn't have as good a range of skills, and his work-rate is worse. He might have the marginal edge on speed, and perhaps could have a great jab if he bothered to use it more than three times a round.

Lewis wasn't just a bit better than Haye. Or even a level up. He was about three levels higher. A genuine all time great.

OK, we all know that, but it's been a while since we've talked about it here, and I think there can never be a bad time to sing Lennox's praises.

Lewis' jab would be all kinds of wrong for haye! Lucky punch aside he'd have almost no chance
