WBU super-featherweight champ Kevin Lear is back in training. The underrated Londoner has been out of action for almost 18 months with a troublesome shoulder injury, but has been given the all-clear at last by a specialist.
Unbeaten in 14 fights, Lear is now looking to defend his title against the man he won it from, Michael Gomez.
"He'll have a warm-up fight before taking on Gomez again," said his manager Frank Maloney, " but it will be the same outcome as when they last met.
"Kevin beats Gomez every day of the week," added Maloney. "People talk about Gomez’s improvement, but they forget that Kevin wasn't necessarily at his best that first night they met.
"Kevin wouldn't have a problem with Alex Arthur either," he continued. "If Alex fights like he did against Gomez, it would only last a couple of rounds."

This is excellent news 2003 should have been an eventful year for the WBU champion, however, through know fault of his own he has been prevented in taking advantage of his impressive performance over Gomez.

Many people have still only seen this guy in highlights on one occasion, the 3 other Super Featherweights (Gomez, Arthur and Docherty) have gained much more exposure over the past 12 months.

I only hope Lear can comeback to the same standard as before, shoulder injuries are hard to truly overcome.

I wish the lad well, he deserves it.
