I do, he was sat there supping a few beers when the original opponent pulled out for some reason,and they basically offered him the fight,and he took it.

I think Charley "The Devil" Green got dragged out the crowd to fight once. Might even have been against Jose Torres?

Didn't Green insist on receiving $10 cash aside from his purse before he went in the ring, saying something like " I paid $10 to get in here, I ain't paying to watch myself"

Cornelius Boza Edwards our WBC Jr Light champ from the 80's had a late replacement opponent, Rolando Navarette, who stepped in for Bazooka Limon. Navarette caused a huge upset by blasting out Boza in a 5 round shocker.

Pacquiao took a 2 week notice in fighting Ledwaba.

I know he didnt win but should have,Wasnt Glen Catley a late call up against Ritchie Woodhall??

Is my memory playing tricks but has Andrew Facey been a late notice job for any of his title fights (I'm thinking mainly of the Macklin upset).

im not completely sure, but i thought that Michael Watson was a late call up to fight Don Lee. I think that Tony Sibson was supposed to be fighting Lee but pulled out for some reason. Watson won the fight and earned himself a world ranking in the process.

Last week, I read an obituary of the Aussie Lionel Rose which said he stepped in as late replacement when he won the world bantamweight title in 1968. I've got no idea how short notice it was.


EDIT: According to this piece it was 3 days notice and he had to travel from Oz to Tokyo

Steve Collins was a late replacement in his first fight with Eubank wasn't he? Although it was in Ireland so can't have been that late notice.

Also not sure how late notice it was but Eubank was a replacement in his fight with Thompson and was actually due to be fighting at Light-Heavyweight on the same bill.

Come to mention it wasn't Eubank a late replacement in against Calzaghe?
