45 minute tribute to Sir Henry Cooper,

i wonder why the bbc dont release a best of harry carpenter box set of best of british boxing from the early 50,s to early 90,s when harry retired,hes being inducted posthumously in the hall of fame this year and so he should as he was a great commentator

You would be suprised how much (and what kind of...) archive the BBC have thrown into skips and bins over the years - utter madness!

yes its quite amazing how come the BBC don't cash in on alot of their archive, instead of raising the licence fee .

what a great idea. Thats why the bbc would never hire u. Those bums piss on our national heritage while the left wing public sector bums they employ fleece the tax payers money for their expenses. Likely most enerys fights were consigned to the garbage bin.

dont worry folks if you missed the henry cooper tribute last night as its repeated next tues on bbc2 11.20pm ok,if you missed it you will havew the chance to see a crackin documentary on our enry !!

Sir Henry wouldn't be able to swing his left hook without poleaxing some version of a world champion in this era.

lovely documentary. The three things that really stood out for me,

1).....what a great Mrs he had. I think it's always a sign of a good Mrs when she can't bear the thought of you being hit. Not like some of these silly tarts you see ringside who view boyfriend getting hit in the face as a great opportunity to sport a new dress/ set of heels combo....(which he probably paid for). So props to the late Mrs Albina Cooper


2)....that story Des Lynam told where Cooper did Lynama favour and the it was Lynam who woke up with a bouquet of flowers at the door as though it was he who had done a favour for Cooper ....I have to say that nearly brought a small tear to Mr and Mrs NEBFs eyes...


3)......I was completely unaware that Cooper had been forced to sell his belts. I thought that was a really sad thing. Him saying "at least the belts are all still together, that's the main thing..." did nothing to make it less sad.

On the whole a fitting documentary to a great guy

I was wondering that too....they should really be back with his sons! I'm surprised that they aren't!
personally if it was me that had bought them I would have had to give 'em back to the family I could not keep them...

They were brought by someone in the music business according to reports. The oldest belt was a gold one, made in 1936 and won the following year by Tommy Farr, so that belt has been in some famous hands before Henry won it outright. the list is

Tommy Farr, Len Harvey, Jack London, Bruce Woodcock, Jack Gardner, Johnny Williams, Don Cockell, Joe Erskine, Brian London.

That shows the history in that 1 belt.
