Which of the four main sanctioning bodies is the most highly sought after/regarded?

I`ve used to think that WBC was the "true" champions belt, but now it doesn`t seem to have the same kudos.

The sanctioning bodies dilution of one title, has been to the detrement of boxing in my opinion. There should be one champion and a list of challengers. This would ensure that people have to firstly earn their shot and I reckon we would see better fights more often.

The WBA was the old NBA so the WBA is the senior title.

The WBC has/had the most prestige as it's members are the EBU the OPBF and the NABF and a lot of national boxing commissions are affiliated.

The IBF split from the WBA because Bobby Lee lost another election against Gilbert Mendoza who had support and money from the South Africans (who certainly didn't want African-American Bobby Lee as WBA president) so Bobby Lee went off and invented his own alaphabet monstrosity and got onside the South Koreans, the Australians, the Indonesians and Fwank Warren! (who wanted and tried to establish IBF-UK titles - so remember that to anyone who thinks FW is 'good' for boxing)

apparently korea withdrew recognition after a while. seung hoon lee held the IBF title at super bantam, but had to give the title up and challenged daniel zaragoza for the WBC crown, fighting to a 12-round draw in korea some time in the early '90s, i believe.

Probably about 1989-90 - but the IBF made hay for a good while in South Korea in the middle to late 1980s - Chong Pal Park gave up his IBF title to fight for the WBA super middleweight title - someones palm got greased - not poor Chong Pal's I bet!

I stopped following the belts a long time ago. Interim, full, diamond, junior etc etc. People not ranked, then surprise surprise appearing in the next ranking without even fighting. To me all governing bodies all piss in the same pot.
I personally look to see the calibre of the fight regardless of what strap goes with it. Lately even seen a couple of masters & area titles that were cracking fights for a lesser belt, but excellently matched.

Yup - Steve Bunce posted on here once that he wanted to write a book about it.

The first mooted IBF-UK title fight was to be between Terry Marsh and Sylvester Mittie and it was
scheduled in the boxing news for the IBF-UK welterweight title - Bennie or Steve Bunce would be able
to shed more light.

I rate the WBA, WBC and IBF as the same and the WBO in the class below that.

IMO:
WBA are a bit of joke with all their world title versions (3 'world' champs at middleweight?!).

WBC aren't far behind (Diamond, Silver etc), plus Suliaman is a complete loose cannon.

The IBF (whilst having had their corruption and legal issues in the early 1990s) seem to be one of the more sensible ones these days.

WBO tend to have some of the more random rankings.

The IBO deserve credit; they at least try to rate based upon computer-generated rankings and also tend to be associated with some of the better fighters in each division (W. Klit, Pascal, Darchinyan).

that could've been bad news, one man having roles in promoting, sanctioning body and an alternative(usurper) to britain's governing body.
