Boxing waves good bye to two great refs

Sad to see John Coyle and Larry O Connell go.
John Coyle
Most remembered: Trying to Stop Mike Tyson from beating up Lou Savarese even more after Coyle stopped it. Coyle fell down trying to do this
Larry O Connell
Most Remember : Scoring the first Lennox Holyfield fight a draw when clearly Lewis had won the fight
Should the Boxing rules be changed so they dont have to retire at 65? surely Coyle has got some more years left in him

One good memory of O'Connell is watching him take that accidental body shot from Junior Jones in the Morales fight. Good job it was only a 122 pounder Larry!

Ah, Coyle has to retire? That's too bad.
I've seen him do a good job several times, last time out in Klitschko - Nicholson, which was a tough night for him.
He doesn't look all that old, I can't remember him making a bad mistake either. Physically he's still fit enough I think
Is retiring at 65 really the rule? Or just in the UK? I saw Tony Capuccino referee-ing recently and he looked a lot older than 65 to me!
(It a was pretty amazing sight actually, the tiny, brittle and ageing Capuccino still had the authority to break up two 230+ heavies within a sec)

Too bad they mixed the pictures up, Coyle should be O'Connell and the other way around.
I would say Coyle looks like 55 at worst.
I like that other article better "Is that aloud here"...at least the pictures

O'Connell was a great ref IMO. Coyle, too, though he showed his age in the Gomez-Arthur fight. My one beef with Coyle was that he didn't like breaking fighters and some of the fights he handled (Calzaghe-Starie and Sibson-Kaylor, for examples) turned into mauls as a result.

Wolverhampton's own John Coyle is a Boxing god! Happy Retirement to him. I once worked with a guy who claimed to know his daughter Jackie...he could have been jumping on the John Coyle bandwagon though 8) But he knew nothing about Boxing so i believe him
