after all the verbals between b-hop and pascal at pascal still had the class to congratulate his opponent after he'd just lost his world title:

"Bernard fought a great fight, he's a great champion, he has a great defence and knows a lot of tricks," said Pascal, after the second fight between the pair. The first ended in a draw, with a majority decision giving the fight to Pascal.

"These two fights will lead me to the next level, I learned a lot from Bernard and his style."

even naz was humble in defeat....and eubanks popularity shot up after his first loss because of the gracious way he accepted it.

i've no beef with fighters being cocky...i love a bit of arrogance...but when the final bell goes a little bit of respect and humility in defeat goes a long way.

degale's just coming across like a spolit little brat.

DeGale reminds me of Antony Small minus minus the radical side.

Like the class Hopkins showed after the Cazalghe fight. People are different, move on.

Hasn't stopped him earning money or winning titles so I doubt it's costing him much sleep, lucky for him boxing is about more than please and thank you. If De Gale helped an old lady cross the road there would be people on here questioning his motives.

degale seems a little more sensitive to the publics perception of him then popkins is (who doesn't give a ...he want's to be a hero...not an anti-hero...

and this thread isn't about him being a nice guy all round so your comment about old ladies is redundant...it's about being gracious in defeat and had he done so on saturday i think he may have gained a little sympathy...

i've absolutely no problem with fighters being cocky, bigging themselves up or whatever....degale got up my nose cos i'm more a fan of groves...IF degale had been winding some yank up like that then i'd have been right behind him...no - my issue was his like of grace in defeat.

To be fair to DeGale, his ego does have its own postcode, so that defeat (a very close one at that) was obviously too hard for him too take.

I think, in time, when he grows up a bit, he'll be more gracious & learn a bit of class.

I'll word the old lady comment a little differently, seeing as you completely missed the point (again), so here it is. De Gale will not be able to do anything right for some people. Clear enough? Probably not, but I'll leave it there all the same.

I think he'd take a rematch over your sympathy.

Of course I'm not saying he reacted in a manner I would have, merely that I can understand his reaction and it doesn't affect whether I'll support him or not in the future. Everyone talks about young Groves at 23, but De Gale is hardly ancient. He'll learn, he'll grow, unless of course he's winding up 'some yank' in which case it's not an issue as you'd then find his conduct perfectly acceptable.

i didnt find his conduct objectionable anyway....he's a bit of a knob but i love all the verbals and the hype....you're wrong to paint me as a hater where degale is concerned...i simply preferred groves....

Thing is, for me, it says as much about McDonnell and the whole camp as it does DeGale.

Immediately after losing you're gonna be dejected. You probably dont feel like being humble, and congratulating your opponent. Times like that, your camp needs to steer you in the right direction.

McDonnell...fail.

Would have been nice to have seen a handshake, for sure, but if they really don't like each other ...

Haye/Thompson was the best example for me. Haye had just been stopped and he spent all of the interview with his arm around Thompson praising him. I am certain that if Wlad beats him, he'll be the same. Clev/Mac is also a good example. Humility and grace in defeat can get you a lot of fans.

DeGale is a total pudendum, so I expected nothing else from him.

They hate each other, end of! They will have a pro trilogy over the coming years. Great for us fans. Maybe DeGale could feck FW off and go and train with Booth? He would make him a world star.

I didn't see Groves make a move to shake hands, as winner it would have been a lot easier. In the post-fight interview he said he'd stop trash talking De Gale and then went on make a few digs. I don't mind either way, but this isn't 'good vs bad' as is being painted.

I thought he walked over straight after the decision and degale blanked him? maybe i didn't see it right

Oh right, to be honest maybe I didn't see it right.... I thought there was an uneasy moment where they looked at each other and both walked away, De Gale in disappointment, Groves elated. I'm sure we're analysing more than they are now though!

And to think, we wondered if the grudge was genuine

That's how it looked to me too. As though George was putting himself in position in case DeGale wanted to, but there was no eye contact so Groves just walked on.
