Quality piece of work

Just wanted to say thanks to Mr brings for representing us boys. We don't get much press so I hope our comments enlighten a few of the lads who think were simply crap fighters. We as journeyman know we do a much needed job, I for one, even with the losses am proud as, doing what we do is no easy gig!

It's a good article, and I enjoyed reading it.

Never the less, it wouldn't hurt for the author to be a bit critical too. Are fighters that lose all the time a good thing for professional sport? For sure, journeymen DO have a role- as is well explained in the article- but still, there is a bad side to the "journeyman" business- after a while, journeyman fights just get dull.

Sure, one or two jurneymen fights on a card are useful- and for this journeymen do a good job- but when 60% plus, or even the whole card is journeymen fights, thats lessening the competative nature of the sport- it almost becomes like watching a semi-competative sparing session.

I think you should try stepping into the shoes of a promoter though. It's a lot harder than you could ever imagine trying to get 6-7 50/50 fights on a bill. A lot of boxers and there managers dont want 50/50 fights they want to protect the '0' and eventually get a big fight on a tv show.

Full respect to Journeymen they are the life and soul of small hall boxing! (and tv undercards)

For sure, and I do know it's a tricky business.

I've nothing against journeymen bouts, as mentioned. And small hall boxing is what it is- fair enough.

Just that, really, they shouldn't be the whole card, or the majority of it in my opinion.

A good example of a show "done right" was the Hayemaker show, at the Liverpool echo - Dodson V Quigley -that had some journeyman bouts, but a mix of other bouts too.

And I simply disagree about TV undercard bouts. In a country where we get, what, 2 or 3 live fights a WEEK sometimes, surely they can find some more meaningful/competative bouts to show?

As stated, prospect V journeymen bouts are good for learning, for building records, for work, to please home fans/ticket buyers etc- all good reasons, for sure. But as live tv entertainment, they are not the best things to show.
