These 2 come across as class acts to me.

Neither got involved in any of the antics around the Groves v Degale fight, they seem to live and breathe the sport, give all to their fighters and understand that fans are important to the game too.

On twitter yesterday when Dave talked about the Curtis v Frankie fight as Curtis' manager, one of the Gavin camp responded "he's going to get stopped" - to which Coldwell replied "I just hope we can do a better job than Muttley we all know Frankie's the nuts" - first class if you ask me.

We all get despondent about characters in this sport and some of the bad stuff that seems to go on , but there's a lot of good people around and these are amongst those operating at a high level imho as a boxing fan.

I thought Adam Booth was brilliant on Ringside last night talking about what they did tactically in the Degale fight, fascinating the way he broke down what James' strengths were and how they worked on countering them, basically giving everyone who fights Degale in the future a blueprint for how to cope with him. It showed his scientific study of his fighters' opponents and astute tactical brain - (similar to his work on the Haye v Valuev fight - challenging his fighter to ignore their instincts), and rammed home what a quality trainer he is...

BUT...the wanker sign to Jimmy Mac was unnecessary - no matter how badly Jim and James behaved in the build up, he could have been the bigger man than doing something like that to an old school fighting man like McDonnell who sportingly shook Groves' hand and said "well done George" ...and there's a smugness about Booth, maybe just the look on his face that makes him hard to like even if his work is easy to admire - maybe, like Degale, it's a public persona gone wrong (much more wrong in James' case) and maybe you can't be one of the good guys to get to the VERY top of a game like this....anyway....

Good post - like the positivity...........completely agree apart from maybe the bit about Booth giving the wanker sign.

Hard to give a proper opinion on that without seeing/hearing/knowing what was being said in the DeGale corner.

For all we know JM could have been stood in the corner saying he was gonna eat Booths babies.

Honestly after all the abuse that had been aimed at Adam and George during the build up and the restraint that Groves and Booth especially showed at not rising to it I think after proving him wrong he can be afforded a cheeky little wanker jibe when his man won.

That aside, I like this post both of those mentioned have only ever come across as honest and hard working in their attempts in all they have done in the sport.

i don't think Jimmy Mac would do that sort of thing you know. He got carried away and behaved a bit like James in the build up but I think especially old school fellas like him know it's one thing before a fight but after the fight you acknowledge your opponents with some respect. We've seen some bad stuff selling fights before and then people show some respect after - even Haye and Harrison after all that. But yep, Jim and James didn't cover themselves in glory in the build up.

I know them both and they are top top blokes.

Dave Coldwell is a class act. A true gentleman in every sense of the word. Similarly Dean is a consummate professional and very approachable.

2 top men I work with Dean and he is a great guy a pure boxing man! Dave is a top man to always a pleasure too talk to, We will be in opposite corners next fight but afterwards we will have a good chat!

You must be joking here, Jimmy Mac and Degale were both behaving poorly after the fight and not just in the run-up. I think a wanker sign was the nearminimum that Booth could show him after all that. It's also a lot more respect than Booth would have been shown if Jimmy Mac had won.

A lot of talk about respect is a one-way street, the 'old school' people who demand it are usually the ones who show the least to others - especially to new school trainers like Booth.

Two top guys, been against Dave a couple times and Dean has helped me out on many occasion. As a young trainer and manager, these two guys are great friends to have in the game

Dave has forged himself a great career after packing in putting his head through the ropes and despite plenty of people trying to place obstacles in the way.
He's young enough to go on to even better things in the sport generally.
He can promote, manage, and train.
I hope he's smashing the tequilas in a few weeks time.

Dean Powell has saved many a corners! He's superb, occasionally speaks above the cornermen that would get on my tits, but his advice is top drawer. Coldwell is another brilliant reader of the game and breaks opponents down well! But Adam Booth is different class the calmness and advice giving in corners is world class and he comes across a really nice bloke imo

he's got some praise on here but there were plenty of people in rotherham who were not happy with him when a certain health club went belly up
i've never heard anyone with a good word for him in sheffield either

2 brilliant guys and and genuine people! I have total admiration for both and also have a fantastic relationship with both! Dave is one of the first I'll call regarding the fight game and many other things and Dean is a highly trusted member of my team!

I wish both all the success in the boxing world!

Being a Mr Nice Guy is just a PR stunt played to perfection by Booth and Co.
