Tom Dallas requires step up in class???

Looking at the up and coming heavywieght scene in the UK. it strikes me that Tom is being left behind

Dallas 15-0 has not fought anyone with a winning record. he's staying busy enough, 4 fights last year and already fought 3 times in 2011. with a 75% KO ratio he certainly doesn't appear to be doing too much wrong.

yet you look at fighters with similar records in the heavy wieght scene just now.

Derek Chisora 14-0. has beaten sam sexton twice, has danny williams on his record and is facing tyson fury next. not to mention his aborted match up for a world title clash with klitchko

tyson fury 14-0 has fought john mcdermot twice and the record books show 2 wins. faced 2 undefeated fights in power and nascimento and is up against chisora next

David Price 10-0. his last 2 opponents with decent records, with far more in the W column than in the L column. one in a Commonwealth heavyweight title eliminator and is now facing john mcdermot in what is now a british title eliminator (which presumably means his next opponent could be the winner of chisora and fury, providing they don't chose to step up and vacate)

given the higher level of opponent faced by chisora and fury, it's understandable that they are further along in thier progress. but has dallas lack of real opposition left him behind or are they intentionally making it a tactical choice to bring him along slowly.
i thought price and dallas were at a similar place a year or so ago. but even price after only 10 fights appears to be making a step up.

should dallas be looking to follow suit or is his camp right to be taking thier time and not risk his record and career as chisora may have done had he stepped into a beating from klitchko

No I think he has much more to learn than the 3 names you mentioned. He's on par with Towers at the minute and the other 3 have surpassed them IMO. I would like to see him in with the likes of Butlin or Swaby over 10 to teach him a few more lessons before moving him on

i agree he is behind the other 3.
but is he behind because he hasn't taken the step up in class the others have?
should he have been taking on the likes of swaby 4 or 5 fight ago?

Agreed. He should be taking on some British fighters just to see where he ranks.

Who would you put him in with from the UK!?

Larry O?
Sam Sexton?

Sprott would take him to school.

Wasn't his last fight enough of a step up in class for you? He was made to look poor and lost that fight in most people's opinion.

Aye mate, if its the one am thinking about, swaby fell way short with a left and Dallas countered it and layed him out. I think he could have beat the count but didn't like what he had just felt haha

Dallas showed in his last fight that he is not ready for a step up just yet.

He should fight big larry and then rematch zach page before facing someone like McDermott if you ask me.

Danny Hughes would be a good test

He lost his last fight for me, and looked pretty clueless, but what's the point in waiting? Sink or swim. He should fight Sexton next.

Thought he was a good prospect and maybe still is but certainly not on his last performance but maybe as they say "just a bad day at the office"

Thread creator clearly did not watch his last fight - he had a step up in class and looked very poor. He needs a step back down if anything!!

Watch his fight with Page.

You can't step him back down in class, either he's good enough or he isn't. No disrespect but if he is going to do anything in the sport, he should be winning clearly against the likes of Page, not struggling to controversial decisions. That said Page was pretty awkward and determined, a great experience for a relative novice like Dallas. He learned ten times more from than fight than any quick ko.

He learns nothing new from going back to knocking tomato cans over. The Page experience should have shown him the need for a plan b and a bit more variety in his work and will hopefully have done him a lot more good than harm.

I agree, a Danny Hughes or Larry O would be about the right sort of test for him now.

Judging by his last fight, Dallas is ready for a step down in class.

Dallas needs to get his head right first, before stepping up. He has all the physical attributes, but he actually said he "got bored" in his last fight (which he lost in my opinion)

The boxing ring is no place to get bored. Could you imgaine Tyson getting bored when he was in his 15th fight? Obviously Tom Dallas is no Mike Tyson, but the point is that you need hunger to succeed and hunger and boredom rarely go together.

Say what you want about Tyson Fury, but he is hungry and looks like he loves the game.

sexton would stand dallas on his head...sam is a very capable fighter.

I think saying he 'got bored' was his own excuse for having a very bad off night and not being able to solve out what was in front of him.

Sexton v Dallas for the English Heavyweight title perhaps?. Sexton needs to get back in the ring after losing his Commonwealth strap to Derek Chisora 9 and half months now.

what progress has Fury made?

if the fight with Chisora actually happens (i'll believe it when they both actually step through the ropes)...then fair enough...but so far Fury's struggled with the average Mcdermot...and his last fight was with Dallas's last opp.... no great advance at all.

as for Dallas...he needs to get some more power in his punches.

where do you get power from???

i think he is a pretty stiff puncher, very slow & ponderous for such a lean fella like. i think the main concern was his lack of cutting down the ring & making his shots count as he kept falling short .
