I know the default position of posters in these parts is that the world is against boxing fans, all fights are crap, Sky are scum and it's not like it was in the great days of the 80s when ITV was practically a 24 hour boxing channel and there were unification fights every other night while the elite fought 15 times a year, but I actually think these are some positive times to be a boxing fan on these shores.

I was just looking at the forthcoming schedule of fights at the top end (ie TV fights) and it's pretty mouthwatering stuff....

4th June

That's 8 consecutive saturdays of fights, most of which are tough to call rather than the standard diet of prospect v journeyman we've had in recent years.

Lots of time for many of those fights to fall foul of the usual, sprain shoelace, bruised fringe type thing but ya know. On screen.

"Paper" in that it was a vacant title fought between 2 low-ranked and barely deserving combatants. The belt itself may be prestigious, but its history does not automatically confer greatness on its current holders. Is Sebastien Zbik worthy of recognition alongside Marvin Hagler and Carlos Monzon because he beat Domenico Spada for an Interim belt that was upgraded when genuine titlist, Sergio Martinez was also upgraded to some kind of uber-champ?

At Light-Middle I consider Miguel Cotto and Cornelius Bundrage to be genuine belt holders. Alvarez needs to beat a world title holder in order for me to consider him a world champion.

Looks like macklin fight is getting shown on sky!

Some good stuff coming, and good job on the positivity, boxing fans can bitch a lot at times!

Did a post on 4 British 'world title fights' the other day (Glyn copied me in his rag) and 2 more announced, all by the end of July! Seems unlikely but could have 7 title holders.

A good few weekends of boxing ahead.

Yup, if I've learnt one thing from my 10 years on boxing forums it's that boxing is sh!t and everybody is over-rated............ (or that us Brits are on the whole constant moaners_
