i thought that, but its only got a rule on boxers betting on the outcome of a their own fights at a bookmakers, there is no rule against a winner take all handshake bet between the 2 boxers

Much as a big headed young man James DeGale is, he was very comfortable and confident before the bout. Both men (and their trainers) eared their money.

I thought that Booth actually went to the board and got them to stop it?

Booth stated before the fight that the board wouldn't let it happen so the bet was off, after the fight he said they'd let De Gale off the bet. Was a well earned dig rather than an act of generosity.

Obviously he would never do it but DeGale may have been able to claw back some level of respect if he had donated his whole purse to charity. After all, it was him that challenged Groves and forced him to accept the bet in front of the cameras.

Am sure Groves said after the fight if the bet was allowed to stand he was giving Degales 300k to a charity. Both guys sold the fight well and deserved to keep there money.
