One of all-times favorites until a certain fight in New Orleans.

Happy birthday, Roberto.

He was probably one of the better lightweights and I loved it when he showed Sugar Ray the door in Montreal.

Don't know how to think about the fight in New Orleans. He may have known it was not his night and simply decided to quit. It took Kosta Tsyu longer to decide and do the same thing. Which one made the 'smart' decision?

I don't judge a fighter on one fight. It's his record overall that tells the tale.

Well horsehit usually has straw and if you wait you might find musrooms. lol

What part did you think was not up to your liking?

I did not get to see the fight. I do not like it when a fighter quits. Quitting for Duran was not something he did often. Why did he do it then? I call it an anamoly in anotherwise stellar career.

I never judge a man harshly for messing up once when I have seen him perform well over and over again.

I agree it was an anomaly.

I just find it inexcusable to defend the actual event. It was a close fight to that point, & Duran just up-&-quit. He more than redeemed himself, but there is no rationalising that decision. He was a coward on that one night at least, no question. It was, in the true sense of the word, a disgrace.

I wonder if outside money may have influenced his decision that night.

I never appreciated Leonard as his skills required.

I wonder if the excuses for Duran and Tyson will ever cease among their fans.

Tyson self destructed. What happened to Duran in NO is not comprable.

I think Tysons disgrace was due to a long line of infuences that accumulated and produced their result. With Duran such a conclusion is not possible. With Tyson no one was surprised when the train left the tracks. We were all surprised by Duran in NO.

Youve misread my post. I was comparing their fans, not them.
