Canadian star reappers on the Esham Pickering show

Unbeaten Canadian bantamweight, Steve Molitor, who looked so impressive when he outboxed Nicky Booth over here for Booth's Commonwealth title, takes part in an eight-rounder with John Mackay on the Esham Pickering-Vincenzo Gigliotti bill at Bradford on January 16.
This is a good match. Mackay, a Ugandan who fights out of the Peacock gym, holds a fine win over current British featherweight champion Dazzo Williams (pts 6 in 2002), licked the experienced Brian Carr in a eight-rounder last year in Carr's own hometown of Glasgow and also stopped James Yelland in six rounds.
But southpaw Molitor is a world class exponent, who holds a stoppage win over Scott Olson for the Canadian title and and added the Commonwealth title with that sparkling points win over the hard-hitting Booth at Brentford. He floored the Nottingham man in the first and eventually romped home by 116-112 on referee Larry O'Connell's scorecard.
Molitor, curently 16-0 (6), and trained by Lennox Lewis' former amateur coach, Adrian Teodorescu, has struggled to find opponents of late. He's boxed only three times since the Booth win in September 2002 and at 23 has seen a promising career essentially grind to a halt.
But he can right that with a win over Mackay, still a youngster himself at 22 and who has also struggled to find opponents. He hasn't fought since that shock win over Brian Carr in March last year, a southpaw like Molitor. But he will have his hands full in this one. The classy Molitor can get home on points.
