Reid may get a rematch

I spoke with Brian Hughes last night, and there is the possibility that a rematch will be ordered between Ottke and Reid. There is a meeting coming up to discuss the matter next week, though he was unsure whether it was with the IBF or the WBA.
If it is with the WBA, what's the odds on Ottke relinquishing his belt rather than face Reid.
If that were the case, it would be no bad thing, as Ottke would be shown for the mewling puking little shite he is, and Reid would probably get a box-off for the vacant title.

I found it absolutely outrageous after reading that it was alleged Reid would have to stump up about £6k to the IBF just to make a complaint?
I'd tell them where to stuff their title.

Where did you read that? How can that be possible? How can it cost money just to make a complaint, what kind of fornicating shysters are the IBF, they really are conducting themselves with the utmost lack of respect for the sport.

Yeah I heard that too. I honestly don't know how some of these fighters retain their passion for the game with all the absolute shit that floats around 24/7.

If Ottke vacants the WBA there wont be a vacant belt, Mundine will be upgrade to "normal" champ.

that is a disgrace if you have to pay that much cash to make a complaint

Can anybody find where this was written, I cannot find it on secondsout, anyone got any clues?
If that is true that Reid has to pay just to complain that that is the biggest fornicating disgrace I've ever heard.
Someone should sue the shit out of the IBF and force them into administration, one less sanctioning body would be a great thing, then on to the WBC and WBA.
I really do wish that all these bodies just dissapeared up their own assholes, I mean, do we really need them?

Didn't get boxing news last week, found a reprint of the story however on the web.
It actually states that Harding 'spent £6000' but didn't say what on, It will be interesting to find out what the 6000 was for. I mean did it go to the IBF, or was it expenses incurred....unless he got a taxi to the IBF offices I find it hard to see where £6000 in expenses could have come from.
I am glad that Harding has followed this up with as much vigour as he has, I wonder whether similar efforts were made by other Ottke victiims who felt they had been cheated. I don't really think though that anyone else had as strong as case as Reid.

If Mundine will be upgraded to WBA champ, will Reid get a shot at Mundine?
That's a very winnable fight for Reid. Reid's great chin won't be troubled by Mundine's power. Reid still looked sharp against Ottke, although the usual lazy fighting could be a factor. If Mundine decides to trade at any point I don't think he'd be able to cope with Reid.
I don't think Mundine would be able to outbox Reid for long periods, although at the end it could be close.
anyone wanna talk about this one?

Yeah i also read in the Mirror that Reid's manager Jess Harding stumped up £6,000 ($10,000) to appeal and that's even guaranteeing a successful result. I doubt Ottke would want a rematch anyway, he probably knows that if Reid has any sense he will forget tactics and come to bomb him out and hope they install a ref who allows punches (you know, the normal sort of refs). If they did fight again what would you do if you were Reid? Would you try a tactical points stealing fight? Or would you go for the KO and forget stamina, hoping you would do the business early?
And as for Mundine-Reid, while Reid is more experienced Mundine is fresher. He would box and move, a tactic which Reid has never liked, he prefers people to come to him. I would expect Mundine to eek out a points win to be fair, as long as he can stay away from Reid's right hands. Still it would be a very interesting fight none the less.

If Reid does get a rematch, I don't see how the IBF or WBA can get away with appointing another ringer for a referee, or any of the judges for that matter.
Of course, Ottke could just vacate either belt. I thought it was the WBA they were meeting with, but it is indeed the IBF.
As to whether Reid has a chance, I think in a rematch he beats Ottke easily.
Were it not for the referee basically preventing Reid from fighting the fight he wanted to, I think he would have stopped Ottke eventually, or at least roughed him up badly.
Over the first 6 rounds, Reid was giving Ottke a lot of trouble, and his eye was getting banged up. I think the same tactics would work second time around. If the ref is fair, Ottke would get banged up badly, he couldn't lay a glove on Reid in the first 4 rounds.
Perhaps without the protection of the referee, Ottke will actually be forced to fight for a change, and maybe he will perform a lot better, who knows, I don't think he has the stamina to last the pace in a hard fight.
Whatever happens it is imperative that Reid throw a lot of punches to make it beyond doubt. Another factor, is that Reid will be a lot fitter by the time a rematch comes around, he was lacking in fitness a little, as he hadn't really been training hard in the previous year or so, his career had gone a bit quiet.
Christ I hope this comes off.

I'm no fan of Ottke who deserved an Oscar for his acting last time out, but I really thought Reid pissed away his chance that night.
The way he stood off respectfuly from Ottke you'd think he had Nigel Benn in front of him, not the feather fisted German.
I imagine the IBF will put that "fee" down to their high priced lawyers.

If Reid had brought the fight to Ottke in the 2nd half of the fight, he would have gotten disqualified!
What did you want him to do? When he hit Ottke he got warned constantly, and the referee didn't stop warning him until after the point deduction, and stopped having success.
I think it's ridiculous that people were saying how Reid pissed his chance away, when the referee warned him for actually punching Ottke.
Something I never thought of as well, if Reid was disqualified, he wouldn't have got paid either. I didn't realise you had your purse witheld if you were DQ'd.

the reason he stood off was becuase every time he went to or hit the coward the ref came in and warned robin[caused mainly by ottke moaning]in my mind the ref was looking for a reson to deduct points, robin started bright and i believe in a fair fight ottke would not last 8 rounds with robin.i think robin obviously new he could not win this fight causing him to get dis heartened, even when he dropped ottke the ref said it was a slip, the ref should never ref again, and ottke be a man instead of a disgrace to our sport.i had robin 4 rounds up even though his heart was not in it from the 6th,show hows good ottke is.

I would bet my house that if Reid had landed a big shot and knocked Ottke the fornicate out, the referee would have found an excuse to DQ him if he could. I'm not even exaggerating, I think the ref would have taken another point away from Robin if he continued hitting Ottke to the body, and then if he hit him with a hook, he would have claimed it was a rabbit punch, and DQ'd him, or given Ottke time to recover, and then DQ'd him when the action resumed the next time he could find an excuse.
I found out some interesting titbits in my conversation with Hughes. He said that when they arrived at the hotel for the weigh in, he saw the referee, the judges, and all the IBF officials sitting having lunch, laughing and joking together, and that at the press conference Roger Tillerman stared Hughes in the eye the entire way through it for some strange reason.

The reason Reid stood off in the the first 5 rounds was because he needed to make sure the judges didn't see Ottke land any shots of any kind. Reid cleverly forced Ottke to step in every time and get countered. He did this brilliantly until he let Ottke back into the fight in the mid rounds. (by this I mean he gave the judges reason to give Ottke rounds

) If only he'd continued with the same tactics for the rest of the fight, IE standing well off Ottke, forcing him to come in and countering, he would've put it beyond doubt. It wasn't like he was throwing a lot of shots in the opening rounds- he could, and should, have continued with that tactic all night. But for some reason he stepped in during the middle rounds until the end, allowing ottke to throw his bogus elbow head and shoulder shots and delight the crowd.
I was thinking just now, does anyone know if Reid has ever been down in his career?

riddick in your opion was it a fair decision?a fair fight?good refereing?a good performance from ottke?

AS TO HOW THE CONTEST ACTUALLY WENT, i scored it close, a draw I think, BUT
the refereeing was appalling (can't be any dispute about that)
round 6 Reid got a legitimate knockdown but it was ignored and he himself got a point deducted- A DIFFERENCE OF 4 POINTS TO WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. this would clearly have changed the outcome, even on the biased judges' cards.
so yes, reid was totally robbed. he could have put it beyond doubt though.

reid knew if he contiued to hit ottke he would be dq,did u not think robin was disheartened by the ref?
Posted: 08 Jan 2004, 13:13
by Bard of Boxrec
yes, definitely, but i think the main reason he stood off, at least in the opening rounds, was due to calculated gameplan. and it worked. this was before the nonsense with the ref had started remember. reid came out from the opening bell with that intention to stand off.
whoo 500th post.

robin had trained for that fight for months[all his life],how can u fight when u have had your heart ripped out?i dont think robin knew he could not win until abouth the 5th and then it hit him like a train.
