sorting out my collection today and i have been watching pro box all day, what a great show that was, it use to show everyone

do any of you remember it?

What channel was that Real Deal?

Any plans for Eurosport to show Green v Lucas BTW? I've only seen him v Beyer and wouldn't mind seeing some more..

not sure the channel maybe ITV

No idea on Lucas i doubt it but hey i think Johhny Nelson last match is on tonight

I used to love Probox as a kid. It was originally screened on a channel called Screensport, Tuesdays 8pm. They'd usually stick 3/4 decent fights on a 2 hour slot and I always thought they seemed competitive. I think they were Matchroom shows?

Screensport dissolved but then Eurosport continued to screen the shows. It was great. You basically got to see the development of Herbie Hide, Chris Eubank from the early stages in their careers. The commentary was a laugh too. David Brennan, Barry Mcguigan and Jim Mcdonnell. I remember the Eubank-Benn fight and they were so ridiculously biased in their rooting for Eubank it was laughable. Funnily enough they didn't spoil my viewing, all 3 were very passionate.

There were some great fights and finishes on those shows. Mickey Hughes one punch knockout that layed out Gary Jacobs for instance, or Eamonn Loughran blitzing Donovan Boucher. Someone else shocked a South African called Ward, damn memory fails me. We got to see the Robbie Regan and Francis Ampofo battles as well, Errol Mcdonald and Michael Watson and Herol Graham's ill-faited challenge to Julian Jackson.

They should bring Probox back, it was brilliant. Screensport also used to screen Top Rank Boxing at 7am some mornings. You'd get ready for school early to watch the USA fights and then come at night and get ready for Probox. Cracking.

Yes, indeed. Screensport was the best. The unbroken coverage made it almost like being at the show itself.
What made the coverage of the Brodie-Chi fight so good was that Sky kept the cameras rolling as the post-fight events unfolded and we saw it all for ourselves. That's what Screensport was like all the time.

Wasn't Screensport the one that used to broadcast the show's in pubs around the UK, Andy Holligan in particular headlining a lot of the shows?

Jim McDonnell used to commentate on that I think. His voice is great for boxing commentary.

Screensport had a contract with Barry Hearn, when Nigel Benn was in the Matchroom stable Screensport aired his WBC title defenses as well.
It was a hell of a lot better then the crap (or reruns from crap) Eurosport brings us these days

I remember that show now, think it was an early version of Eurosport wasn't it? The commentator was an annoying bugger called Dave...something

It's what ch5 have been showing for their classics, and there's some good stuff. Watched Naz's first 3 fights the other night, very interesting.

As Adam says some of the channel 5 fights are probox archives. Did you see Lennox the other night adamiw? 16st 10lbs, absolutley fantastic physique for a boxer.

yeah, he accent has changed a bit as well since then.

The Naz fights were very interesting. Didn't realise he started at flyweight, and he was so god damn quick. Obviously he would be faster at 8st 2 than 9st but he was way faster! So confident as well, who in their first fight comes in flipping all over the place, taunting their opponent.

But his performances didn't blow me away, more his physical attributes, speed and power. He rushed and lunged in quite a bit, and got hit more often. He improved alot in his first 15 fights, shame he couldn't coninue progressing, and become the legend that he had the potential to be.

Jim is a legend, good in the Jackson-Graham fight if you have seen that, he was in disbelief over how brutal the KO was.

That's the guy Jimmy - I'll have to start watching those CH 5 fights, I'm always forgeting they're on - good to see J Taylor on this weekend too.

Dave Brennar used to write a column in the early editions of boxing monthly.

As for Lewis, wasn't he just so much better than the current crop of heavyweights even back then. You could see world class moves about him, and that was when world class included Tyson, Holyfield, Rudduck etc - not Tua, Rahman, Ruiz.

Audley will never be in his league.

funny enuff i'm just watching graham-jackson right now on pro box with dave brenner and good ol jim mcdonnell.

its gr8 commentary the amount of times they warn us about jackson's power and sure enuff bang. :( "oh no thats what we've been worried about he's out he's out" its the way mcdonnell says "out" its legendary. the other gr8 one is "ggggg that was one hell of a shot i didn't know it was like that" "i could cry for herol right now"

i've just recently got all naz's early fights when he was beating up the journeymen and every1 of those is on pro box and a few lennox lewis ones to.

yep i was reading something about one of the other heavyweights joe mesi i think it was and his promoter was saying if u look at the early career of lennox lewis he wasn't looking that good and blowing every1 away and i'm thinking to myself u need to get hold of those fights and remind yaself 8) he was pasting em all early on in his career and looking the business in every fight.

one of my favourites is the noel quarless fight he decks him at the start of rd 2 then he decks him again and the ref is still counting and lennox is walking around the ring with his arms up he circles round once and for a split second quarless is game for carrying on and lennox motions as if to start again the ref then waves it over and quarless gets in a tiff about it you've gotta watch it to c the funny side
