FNF - Good luck Iron Rhino

Well except for the main event the card looks pretty slim.
Good luck Mick - I think it is going to be a tough night but one thing is for sure, you will have a fair dinkum crack. And when that happens in boxing you are ALWAYS a chance of coming out with the win, I hope you pull it off!

Mick was down at our gym Monday week ago doing some work with Big Scotty Belshaw, unfortunately I missed it due to this fornicating flu, but from all accounts he looked good and was working the plan he'll need to work, big fan of Kirby, he's always the underdog but always comes to fight and does well with his limited background and his chin and heart can never be questioned.

He could be catching Kali at the right time and his come forward and smother style might work for him... all things considered though this
should be a win for Meehan if he has anything left. Still good luck Mick we know you'll have a crack and that's all we can ask.
As for one of the original comments, yep the rest of the card looks thin on paper, but at least they're not all obvious mismatches so it could still provide some entertainment

Go Rhino, you're always a chance because you give yourself a chance, a big scalp in Australian boxing and agree with Marlin about the timing.

A standing eight count should have been applied to the Rhino as I feel the ref jumped in a bit preamturely.
Kali's considerable reach advantage, hitting him as he came in, was the thing that put the Rhino on the ropes before the ref waved it away.

Are standing eight counts legal now? Somehow I think it would have only delayed the inevitable.
You just don't give a boxer with over 40 fights an opening.
Be good if Kali gets to fight McCall and Tua.

I'm totally in favour of standing 8....it usually prolongs inevitable

Meehan stopped Kirby in 1 minute. Cuaght him with some huge punches. Ref waved it off. Not sure if there is a standing 8 or not.
Probably a good thing Kirby can come back stronger for hisnext fight. Taking a few more hard shots whilst badly hurt wouldnt have beengood.

kirby was in la la land, he was gunna get pummelled more if the ref didn't stop it. kirbys corner would surely not have had a problem with the stoppage.
the same would happen to alex too if he fought kali. he wouldn't handle shots like that imo.
kirby will be back and be a tough night for the rest of the locals for some time. no shame losing like that to a guy who was not long ago ranked no.1 in wba. just a different class thats all.
i'd hate to be kirbys next opponent, he's gunna get hurt i think, lol.

In the introductions the announcer said there is 'no standing 8 count', so the ref couldn't apply one. Kirby was one punch from being KO'd badly there, the ref stopped it and Kirby quickly got his senses back. but the ref did him a favour

For as long as I've been aware, in Queensland. There has never been a standing 8 count

In the rules generally used in title fights there is no standing eight count. If the WBF wants to be taken seriously it cannot act differently.

Wait, what standing count, the ref pulled them apart and waived the fight off.

I went a to fight up the Gold Coast this was going back couple of years, anyway King Kava got stopped on his feet, no standing 8 count. They said in Queensland there is no standing 8 count. Well as for the WBF, can a sanctioning body over power a commission. Than does Queensland have commission? Does it going under the ANBF? If so does that mean in an Australian title fight there is no standing 8 count? Think about it loop wholes everywhere. I think Big rhino was in abit of trouble, no shame in that, most of us have been there, and look who he was up against, but just how much trouble? He is the one, that knows the real answer to that.

Good post, Mark, Iron Rhino was in trouble, fair stoppage, and there's certainly no shame in that, particularly considering who he was up against, and the fact that he took the fight straight up to him.

Beltane said there should have been a standing eight count, not me.
According to Rule 7 of the Unified Rules of Boxing there is no standing eight count. This probably means that if a boxer is on his feet but in such a state that the referee thinks he should start a count he should stop the fight.

Well,well boys.............
I just want to thank everyone for their words of encouragement and support. Some days it just doesn't go your way.I personally think the ref could have handled it a bit better, and I won't lie I was hurt, but the last time I checked the back of the head was a foul and a warning should have been issued, then fight continues, and if I get Ko'd so be it,we all know i'd rather be flat on my back with no doubts, than being stopped like that.kali was a big step up for me,I take nothing away from him,I just wanted to get into some later rounds to see what his real conditioning was,as wasn't he huff'n and puff'n after our exchange. The fight never really got started, even on the night from the other fights,it took some serious pummeling by opponents to get any sort of stoppage,I get hit 3 times and fight over,a bit weak imo.How pissed off was alex, love the support bro and all the lionheart brothers.I will say I didn't get to show what I had,he done his job brilliantly and congrads to him.I don't care who is in front of me for this aus title fight coming up,their finished!Thankyou everyone again,I will continue to shoot for the sky,put on some great fights and have no regrets with my boxing career!Cheers mik.

because the damage was done well before the punch to the back of the head it is a non-issue imo. if that punch had any real effect then yes, but the lights were already out i believe.
all the effort in training means little if your opponent is just simply too good, the winner is the one who stays on their feet, not who can survive till late to see if their opponent has any gas left. but yes it must be frustrating knowing how much work u put in in the lead up to it. but with kali puffing like that, he did just throw many massive shots in a short space, and u r harder to ko than king kong probably, so it would have taken plenty of gas to try and put holes in u, lol.
at the end of the day u have everyones respect for having the balls to face kali and not run like girly quinn did. its no shame losing to a guy who was only recently ranked 1 or 2 for near on 3 years for the wba title, and even valuev refused to fight him.
like u said the best way to recover is to come back and show u can do better next time.
can't wait to see your next fight.
