Gah. Sad, but predictable. For about the millionth time, please hang 'em up, Danny, it's gone.

its so sad to see Danny turning into a punchbag. I guess he needs the money, but he's going to end up really punchy at this rate. He's getting battered on a regular basis.

It's worrying for him, he might regret taking these last few lower level paydays in a few years if he has long term damage from these fights.

It's these fights that he could pay the heaviest price for. Bloody hell....

the stoppage was a joke. one of the worst i have seen. williams fought very well in the fight

just seen the fight, and i thought the same. Danny actually looked ok in there, he was landing some good punches, had Charr cut and worried. Danny landed alot of punches on Charr in the 7th and then Charr came back to have Danny on the ropes, the ref then stopped it. I would say it was a very British stoppage

I don't even care too much anymore. If he fights, gets beat, and hurt, then so be it. It'll be his own fault.

Well they did have the rights to the show - the fight did involve a prospect (of sorts) and a British fighter. I would have liked to have seen it, its not as if Sky haven't shown any fights of a shot Danny Williams - and I would have liked the final(?) TV showing of a Danny fight being a lot more positive than the Chisora debacle where he was lucky to come away with his purse IMO.

my topic was meant more along the lines "shame he's been reduced to this sort of thing" - and while agree the stoppage was questionable, I am more along the lines of Williams being licensed in Latvia - fighting in Germany - facing a young unbeatne prospect, and being "used" as a name on a record. The fact the stoppage was dubious actually makes it sadder in my view....

However, while Williams did look better than he has in a while - did you also not think that he looked battered at the stoppage? That the punches were having a big effect on him (his head was snapped back badly prior to the stoppage and he was looking wobbley), he had been wobbled a few times between rounds 3 and 7...... and he hardly protested at the end at all (plus his final flurry pre-stoppage was mainly landing on the gloves of Charr).

I stand by my comment: "Poor old Danny" :-(

He's going to get seriously hurt soon. We're not talking about Evander Holyfield here, we're talking about a fighter who took much punisihment during his prime, let alone at 38 and completely shot.

I don't care that he looked somewhere north of a bag of turds in the ring. I care that long, LONG after his chin has been cracked, 7 years after taking shellackings from Tyson and Klitschko and a long subsequent line of punchers great and small, he's still taking clean shots from professional fighters. The decline of Danny's punch resistance has not been caused by his stamina bar turning from yellow to red, it's been caused by neurological changes that result from being belted in the face over and over again. Seeing that his resistance has been on the decline since Sinan Samil Sam hammered him all over the place in 2003 (and if you buy that Danny had shingles for that fight, then at the very least since the Klitschko fight, where his legs had turned to jelly within 90 seconds of the first bell), that makes 8 years of being whacked around while in a state of neurological injury. Unless you believe that punch resistance is like karma and just declines through a magical process administered by Compubox and Bob Arum. I don't. I think he's injured and needs to do something else for money before all of this catches up with him.

You cannot bank on having Tex Cobb's or Roberto Duran's DNA and emerging unscathed from a lot of shots to the head; you have a lot of years left to fend for yourself and your family when the crowd dissipates and you're a piece of fight history, as glorious as Danny's courageous legacy is. Warrior immortality didn't help Battling Nelson too much, nor a thousand others like him (and I strongly suspect that this plays on the mind of Carl Froch, a man who's started to box and retreat after years of soaking it up to prove what a warrior he is). If Danny starts to sound punchy I'll feel fornicating awful for not personally tracking Danny down and yelling at him to quit, as ridiculous as that sounds from someone who's a complete stranger, someone entirely outside of the fight game; I've been posting here about his need to stop fighting since he pulled out of the first Skelton fight. That was an awful lot of heavy headshots ago.
