Macklin was not Robbed

He had a very close hard fought fight with a geramny world champion in germany, i scored the fight a draw, my full respect goes to macklin who has the heart of lion and would not give up, but it was a very close fight and the german fighter was always going to get it on home turf. If you want to see a fighter robbed go and watch pernell whitaker vs ramirez or chavez, or lennox lewis vs holyfield 1, That fight last night was not a robbery

I half agree like, I think it was a bad decision but not on the level of Lewis v Holyfield like! Either way though I had Macklin by 1

Is that 'scouse' typing?
His best chance and it was not fairly scored. How do you think he would handle Barker on that performance?

It was close I thought Macklin just nicked it. Like to see a rematch.

macklin is going to be overrated off the back of that performance. sturm blocks shots so macklin was going to be able to throw plenty. against someone like barker he won't look good because barker avoids shots by moving out of the way. martinez would also be a difficult fight for him for the same reason. sturm gave macklin free reign to come inside and tee off on his gloves which looked good because macklin was busier. when he goes up against a stylish mover, he won't look half as good

I think Sturm would beat him more convincingly in a rematch. I can't see what Macklin could do to improve on that performance.

It was agood performance by mathew although i had strum by 2 rounds, imo in about 6 months Craig McEwan would be more than ready to beat both.

These fights can go either way and the home fighter always gets the nod because it's so close to score. When you fight away from home intending to take the title you must make the fight clear as day.
A robbery was Mattlysse - Alexander. Those scores cannot be justified, it was home cooking at it's best.

I thought it could have gone either way.
If it was in the UK with a few thousand cheering Macklin's efforts it could have swung it his way.
As it stands it was a great fight and a great effort.
It's been a long time coming, with many (myself included I admit) losing a little bit of faith in him, especially given the lacklustre performances and pull-outs in the previous year.
But fair play, he gave a very decent operator plenty of cuts & bruises to think about.

This type of judging is it down to:
- Supposed world class judges constantly being influenced by the crowd (if so that seems a weak excuses)
- The judges are under the impression that if they don't give a close fight to the promotions fighter they won't get employed again
- The judges are completely bent and are getting a pay off
I would be interested to hear peoples views on this.......especially any pro trainers / boxers.....what is your impression from the inside?

I don't think he'd beat Sturm or Macklin. I think he's got a good few fights and impressive wins to gain before it can be said that he's better than Macklin, Barker, and Murray.

The fact 2 judges only had Macklin winning 4 rounds is an absolute joke. Maklin won this fight and i definitely think there should be a re-match outside of Germany

Check out Flex's blog (sorry, no link), but I'm with him on this - too tight to shout 'robbery' like some have

Agree, robbery is too strong a word. It's like when De Gale fought Groves, on the night I thought De Gale had nicked it, but I can see how Groves was given the decision. It wasn't a robbery, just difference of opinion on a subjective matter. It felt like that again on Saturday.
Macklin surely did at least enough to get another crack at some point though...

The real odd one is the drawn card in Froch-Johnson that was so criticised - turns out that the judge in question was only 'wrong' on one round, meaning that his card tallied with one of the other judges, who both had Froch a wide winner, on 11 rounds in that fight! Scoring can do weird things.
But yes, Macklin showed he belonged. I didn't believe he had that in him but he proved me wrong, very impressed.

The fact that 2 judges only gave Macklin 4 rounds each is ridiculous, he won 5 out the first 6 on my card. Sturm was the one landing the blows that were rocking Macklins head back, but Macklin landed more punches IMO, they just didn't have the eyecatching qualities of Sturm punches as Sturm head wasn't being rocked about.
IMO that doesn't mean Sturm won the fight, any country other than Germany and Macklin would've got the nod IMO

I had it a draw or possibly Sturm, which is not failing to appreciate MM's fantastic effort in any way. It's just another case of anyone can see fights differently - especially judges, who have a different view from each other and from what we see on TV. A punch that connects from one judges' position might have been blocked from another's. There is always an element of guesswork at ringside, when a fighter's back may be to you and obscuring your view. Also, many people value punches thrown whether or not they are blocked, a quantity vs quality situation. So many ways to see tight fights.
Re my earlier point about the Japanese draw judge in Froch-Johnson (which I think the world disagrees with), it shows how easy it is to come up with freak scores. I would love to see the cards for Sturm-Macklin and see how they relate to each other, which rounds the judges agreed and disagreed on. Always interesting in a tight fight. I'll try and get hold of them.
