Vladimir or Wladimir??

Have the Telegraph got it wrong or is he not bothered how you spell it?

was originally with a V but he changed it to the german spelling in 2003 (i think) which is with the W so both count

Consider though that he's not Russian...
he was born in a russian speaking part of ukraine hence a russian name and spelling

He was actually born in Kazakhstan. However, the Ukranian and Russian languages are similar (although I would say Ukranian is slightly closer to Polish in how it sounds when spoken) and the Ukranian alphabet is a variant of the Cyrillic one. More Ukranians speak Russian than Ukranian in everyday conversation, including the brothers. Apologies for going off on one like the language geek I am.

He was born in the Soviet Union. Then it was all the same country. Has always been Wladimir, only when he was less famous, people spelt it wrong.

no it was spelt with a V before he became famous

wlad spells it with a w when he signs a signature, interestingly enough, vitali ends his first name with a 'y' when he signs a signature.
