Basilio is one of my favorites. Zale too. Theres so many great ones.

This fight Moore Durelle 1 is probably my most favorite fight of all time to re-watch.

When I was a kid Zale was often in top 10 MW lists but these days he seems to get overlooked.

It was special era in boxing.

Do you think Zale is a top-10 candidate in 2011? How do you see him stacking up with a prime Hopkins head-to-head?

He’s a candidate.

I wonder if Hopkins could have made 160 back in Zale’s day. And if he could how much would have been left on the scales. Hopkins was tall and muscular unlike Hearns and Monzon who were tall and wiry…

If they did meet at their best… Zale would throw more but Hopkins would take few punches full-on and would be accurate with his counters. Zale was one of the greatest body punchers and he’d have success there.

As Hopkins has got older it’s become more obvious to me how good he is at judging range and how accomplished he is with his footwork. He often throws as he comes into range. I haven’t seen enough footage of Zale to know how he would cope. I think both men would have to dig deep in this fight.

I'd say Zale would be a good match-up with Hopkins, Leonard or Hagler. I admire him quite a bit too. His fights with Graziano were quite spectacular. Graziano was no where close the fighter Zale was, I consider him, Graziano, to be more like Rubin Carter with more fights. But Zale had skills, real skills and discipline in the ring. His experience from being in all out struggles is something a lot of fighters never have.
