says a 54 year old called steve ward is the oldest pro boxer and has been recognised by the Guiness world records. but he defended an EBF belt. are they considered pro now

is there anyone older or any official pro boxers anywhere near that age?

Major FAIL on the Beeb and Guiness' behalf if they think the EBF counts as pro boxing.

Oldest currently BBBC-licensed pro is probably Delroy Spencer (42)

Skelton 44? (at least)

Delroy is just slightly older than Terry Dunstan who is 42 also.

Karl Taylor last boxed Oct 2010 and he is 45

Karl is defo retired now Terry.

Pro is basically anyone that is paid. When people use the term "pro" what they actually mean is "BBBofC licensed".

I know that he's not British, but Saoul Mamby boxed in a proper pro fight at the age of 60 a few years back.

the EBF posters down my way say pro boxing on them but i personally know the local EBF promotor , hes an ex pro boxer , manager and promotor with bbboc called John Ashton so im pretty sure hed know the difference , this actually reminds of another recent thread

in all honesty already heard about this story , its actually the above mentioned promotor who the guy fights for .

I agree with most of that but i was just pointing out that you cant define professional anymore as some one who is paid and leave it at that. The GB lads get paid and if they train great but lose too many fights they lose there funding so there arnt really getting paid for training they are getting paid for results.
Also unlicenced does not just mean unlicenced by the bbbc it also means that they wont get there results recognised by any of the other bodies and they wont get added to records databases as boxrec.
Even tho the Ebf is a licencing body it doesnt get any recognition anywhere else does it.

Like i say agree with your points just pointing out that merely getting paid doesnt mean professional anymore as the World series thing in the amatuers also proves.

Also there are quite a number of lower level pros that do a ticket deal and have ended up fighting for no money .So would there fights not be classed as pro because its defined by getting paid?

I was one of the 40 up at the AGM complaining to the board lol so im not here to stick up for any of the licencing bodys either

in all fairness the only reason ebf fights dont go onto the records of boxers is because there not part of the self appointed bbboc , im pretty sure they could legally challenge this if they wanted to but would then probably have to have higher levels of medical cover such as brain scans etc which would make them more "professional " anyway .

I'd be interested to know how many boxers fighting on this bodies shows had their licences withdrawn by the Board for medical reasons, or due to them being deemed a danger to themselves if allowed to continue. I'd also be interested to know if they are adequately medically checked over before boxing and insured should they suffer any injuries in the ring.
As for including such fighters records on BoxRec, erm

I agree but... is it too far off from what a lot of countries pro boards are like , and their records are included .
