Former WBA middleweight champion William Joppy was arrested and jailed today on charges of assault stemming from a November incident.
Joppy, who lost to Bernard Hopkins last month, is alleged to have struck a bailiff twice outside the Round One Gymnasium in Capitol Heights on November 26.
James Ware, an adjuster for a car repossession company, was peering into Joppy's car when the boxer allegedly assaulted him, according to Ware's attorneys.
Ware suffered a broken jaw in the attack, his lawyers said. Ware has filed a $5 million civil lawsuit against the boxer.
