Former WBA middleweight champion William Joppy was arrested and jailed today on charges of assault stemming from a November incident.
Joppy, who lost to Bernard Hopkins last month, is alleged to have struck a bailiff twice outside the Round One Gymnasium in Capitol Heights on November 26.
James Ware, an adjuster for a car repossession company, was peering into Joppy's car when the boxer allegedly assaulted him, according to Ware's attorneys.
Ware suffered a broken jaw in the attack, his lawyers said. Ware has filed a $5 million civil lawsuit against the boxer.

fornicate, that guy could wind up more for getting two whacks in the mush, than Joppy earnt fighting Hopkins, and I bet his mush didn't look as bad either.

Perhaps Joppy should become a repo man when he retires, there's good money in it, he could go around harrassing boxers, he should have all the right contacts.

As Bennie said on a thread on Boxingaddicts, Joppy has had a very tough year and while I don't condone his actions with this incident. Its quite understandable that he might be under alot of strain.

Joppy appears to have his 2003 brand of luck following him into 2004 - poor guy!

I bet he hasn't even got rid of the lumps BHop gave him, never mind recovered from the death of his daughter.
